Music for the Day

As the title says, I’ve been playing Animal Crossing: New Horizons for a couple of years now. I play it almost daily now, with only a few missed days since I started. And, if I’m going to be honest with you all, I’ve been feeling burnt out on playing it.

As an autistic guy, it’s challenging to keep my interest high. If I was in the classroom, I would be looking at the glass window because it’s hard for me to keep my focus, especially if it’s on a dry topic or talked about dryly. But, if it’s something that I’m passionate about and told interestingly, I would be sinking my hours into it. I’m nearly a hundred hours on Pokémon Legends: Arceus, and I don’t feel as fatigued.

But if it becomes a chore, a routine, then it becomes increasingly more challenging for me to do it unless needed. And video games are a luxury, not a necessity. Plus, if I have a backlog of stuff that I do want to do, that I want to play, then my ability to keep playing on it becomes even more difficult.

It’s a problem that I foresaw when I purchased this game. It’s why I brought it as a digital download instead of a physical copy since it’s easier to swap between games. Heck, as beloved as Animal Crossing: New Leaf was, I couldn’t get into it because I got a physical copy. That and I play it on evenings/nights when all the stores are closed.

I don’t think of it as an empty game, though that’s because it’s my first proper Animal Crossing game that I haven’t dropped after a few hours or so. So I have no reference to how packed the previous games were. And I enjoyed the villagers I got (Bones, Buck, Elise, Huck, Knox, Midge, Nibbles, Peaches, Tammy, and Winnie) to the point that I haven’t traded or allowed a villager to leave.

At the same time, I cannot deny that I’m burning out on the game and that I’ll need to stop playing it. As such, I have a personal vow. At the very least, I will get all of the remaining paintings/statues from Redd. Here is the link for everything that I still need from Redd. https://www.dropbox.com/s/go49k3h6kzjxby8/Redd%20Arts.txt?dl=0

I don’t have every bug, fish, or deep-sea creature, but I’m not as concerned about getting them. I’m also confident that I don’t have every DIY recipe, which I’m also not worried about. All I wish for is to get every last painting and statue. I’m just hoping to get them within the next few months.

So, wish me luck!
