Game Boy Games That Would Be Possible to Be In Nintendo Switch Online At Launch by GreenHamster

Recently, there has been a rumor floating around that Game Boy games could be coming for Nintendo Switch Online, and honestly if it was true, I don’t mind it coming instead of Nintendo 64, even though I don’t mind if we get one or the other, or both if it’s possible. That being said, here are the games I believe have a chance of coming at launch. For consistency’s sake just like with my list of Nintendo 64 games that have a chance of appearing at launch, there will be twenty games.
1. Super Mario Land: Just to get this one out of the way, I think this would be a good choice at launch since this is one of the games that most people would recognize when they think of the Game Boy. And although I would prefer Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins more, I think it might be better to avoid sequels for this list for now. Plus, it’s really cool how Mario flies an airplane and pilots a submarine during this adventure.
2. Tetris DX: Sure the original Game Boy version of Tetris is more iconic, I chose this version because it includes more game modes: Ultra which is making 40 lines as fast as you can, and Vs. Computer for practicing competing against a friend.
3. Mario’s Picross: I remember hearing Picross from this game, and I never played that kind of puzzle before. After reading the instructions, I thought it was an interesting concept for reading the number of squares for each row and column to reveal the picture. Sure we have Mario’s Super Picross for SNES and there are other ways to play it, but this one feels like the origin of hearing it for most Americans who grew up with the Game Boy.
4. The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening DX: Just like with Mario, it would feel wrong to have a retro game collection of Nintendo without Legend of Zelda. Even though we already have the remake of this game on the Switch, I think it could be interesting to see what differences there would be between the original and the remake.
5. Game & Watch Gallery: Once again, it was hard picking just one, so I decided to pick the first one, even if I like one of the other two more. But regardless, this is a nice collection of LCD games Nintendo made not only including their original versions but modern versions with Mario characters, music, and additional features from characters with multiple speeds to clearing a miss.
6. Kirby’s Dream Land: A classic platformer that introduces the world to the adorable pink puff(even though white on the cover.) This will give players a chance to see what Kirby’s debut was like without his iconic copy ability. Even without that, it would still be a fun game to play to this day.
7. Alleyway: If you’re a fan of Arkanoid, you’ll love this game. I also thought this game has a nice twist on the classic arcade game with blocks that move and some that appear from the top pushing the ones at the far bottom lower.
8. Donkey Kong: You can’t go wrong with this game. This takes the 1981 arcade classic, and gives it a new twist after completing the arcade levels. Now you have to get a key to unlock a door to move onto the next level. This game feels like a pre-Mario Vs. Donkey Kong, as you have to pick up things and swing on poles. It also has a lot of great worlds to explore, each one introduces new features to discover and boss battles to face in.
9-11. Pokemon Red, Blue, and Yellow: I honestly couldn’t leave these iconic games behind. These games definitely show a neat twist for the typical RPG. Instead of fighting with yourself, you use your team of battle creatures to fight. I couldn’t choose just one of these games just like with the Mario Party trilogy, so I chose all three of these games in my list.
12. Kirby’s Block Ball: Another take on Arkanoid with a Kirby theme. This one has a lot of fun features that you won’t find in Alleyway including a superhit to destroy harder blocks, the iconic copy ability to help you, and boss battles.
13. Balloon Kid: This game is what happens if you take the Balloon Trip mode in Balloon Fight, and turn it into a platformer. It has some creative platforming elements in its levels and clever obstacles relating to them. If you love the Balloon Trip game, you’ll definitely love this one.
14. Lock ‘N Chase: Based on the arcade game with the same name, this is a Pac-Man like game with cops and a robber. It looks like a very addicting and fun game to play, as you use diamonds to attack the cops like Power Pellets and money bags to freeze them.
15. Mole Mania: Ever wanted to play as a mole in an Adventures of Lolo like style game? Well, this game is for you! This game has a lot of neat concepts including digging underground to go though areas and throwing objects to defeat your enemies. Plus, you gotta love how the mole wears sunglasses!
16. Kirby’s Star Stacker: This puzzle game is very addicting to play having you match two or more of the same character on the board, but there are star blocks as well which you need to sandwich two of the same character blocks and you’ll score points!
17. Pokemon Pinball: One of my favorite pinball games on the Game Boy, as it makes the Pokemon game we all know and love into a pinball machine! I love how it includes various bonus stages, locations for different Pokemon, and two different tables for twice the fun!
18. Pinball Revenge of the Gator: Speaking of pinball, here’s another one I played with multiple levels like in the NES game Pinball including a breakout like area and a slot machine. If you’re into pinball like me, this is one you outta play.
19. Mr. Driller: A puzzle action game by Namco consisting of breaking blocks and digging to the bottom of the area. This game has a lot of challenges in it to make you hop on your toes from moving left or right to prevent getting crushed by falling blocks and having to grab air tanks to prevent yourself from being unable to breathe. Sure, there’s Drill Land on the eShop available now, but this game can show how we got from this to that.
20. Hamtaro: Ham-Hams Unite!: For this last game, I just had to put this on here. I remember reading about this game a very long time ago and learning that Nintendo themselves published this game along with the three Game Boy Advance titles later on. It has you exploring different areas in a big world as you learn Ham-Chat and find the other Ham-Hams and bring them to the Clubhouse. Along the way, you’ll also get to create a dance with the words you found or dress up Hamtaro with any clothes you bought at the boutiques. True, this is a game based off of a TV show, but because of how I’m a huge fan of it, and as I said before with Nintendo publishing the game, I had to put this on the list since this is a game I believe needs more attention with its wonderful graphics, lovable characters, and world exploring. After all, Stunt Race FX is an obscure Nintendo title, and it made it to the SNES collection at launch, so this service feels like a great place to have it be remembered!

Before I go, here are some sequels for honorable mentions that I can see appearing in the service if some of these other games don’t make it.
1. Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins: This sequel has a lot of great areas to explore whether tiny in the Macro Zone or in a giant Mario statue in the Mario Zone. It was hard not putting this one in the list because I wanted to focus less on sequels, but I can definitely see some potential with this game on the service.
2. Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3: Although I don’t know if this is considered a sequel since despite it having “Super Mario Land 3” in the title, it focuses on Wario. Regardless, this game can be a good introduction to the Wario Land series with our greedy treasure hunter collecting a lot of money!
3-4. Game & Watch Gallery 2 & 3: Once again, it’s hard choosing just one of these games since they include games with their original LCD games and modern versions.
5. Kirby’s Dream Land 2: This game is one of the best sequels I played. It has the introduction to Kirby’s animal friends: Rick the hamster, Koo the owl, and Kine the fish who help our hero in his mission and even use the abilities he has that each one is different than Kirby alone that can be helpful on land in the air or underwater.
And that’s all the Game Boy games I believe have a chance of coming to NSO. I don’t know if this rumor is true or not, so we’ll have to see on the next Direct I assume will be coming soon. Whatever we get, I have a sneaking suspicion that we’ll hear what Nintendo has to say about the whole “increasing appeal” thing they mentioned for NSO, I’m hoping it will be either this system or Nintendo 64.
