As usual it's been six months since my last Avania status update, but what a wild six months it has been! I hope you all reading this are safe and well. I am grateful that my life has not been too terribly impacted by recent events, and that the increase in time spent at home has actually allowed me to get ahead on Avania and create more art in general.

This is an interesting time for the comic now, as after finding some sense of regularity with producing and posting pages over the last two years, I am now finally catching up with my buffer, and with it the first quarter or arc of the "season 1's" plot.

To briefly recap, Avania launched exactly two years ago on July 8th, 2018, after about 5 years of dedicated work (and close to 10 for general development of the characters and setting). As of January 2020, the comic has since reached the following numbers:

Total Comic Posts (Covers and Interior Pages): 109
Pages Published: 100
Issues Completed: 5
Pages Completed: 110*
Pages Written: 310
Total Planned for Season 1: 17 Issues, 360 Pages

*Note that "Pages Completed" doesn't count credits pages, even though as of Issue No.3 they basically became single-panel story pages.

I am now unexpectedly a little ahead of where I anticipated being at this time, so it is possible I will complete the first chapter of Issue No.6 before late October, when Issue No.5 will finish posting. This presents the possibility of pushing out the weekly posting for an extra 10 weeks, though I am not sure if I will do that, as there is a natural break point in the story at that time which I think would be ideal timing for the inevitable change in release schedule.

In either case, I am incredibly excited to have made it this far, and looking forward more than ever to exploring more of Avania (and other locales) as I start production on Issue No.6's chapters! Both of them will introduce some new faces to the comic, but if you've followed my work for a while you will likely already know some of them...

As I've mentioned in past posts, once my current buffer expires, I am planning on switching to an on-off pattern of finishing a chapter and then posting pages every week until it is done. I believe this will be the best compromise between trying to maintain a weekly schedule and ensuring both story and art quality continue to improve... Of course, my ultimate goal is to work on Avania full-time, and thus be able to post new pages weekly!

As for printing the comic (and releasing it digitally), I have Issue No.5 fully completed, and need only prepare it for print. Since the webcomic has almost caught up with my production though, I figure I will wait until No.5 has been posted before sending it to print. I'm hoping to make a final draft of all completed issues, and then start taking orders! I know it has been a long time coming, but I am really excited with how things are shaping up, and I think the time taken to make adjustments will provide the best finished product yet possible for me!

In my status update 6 months ago, I said "All in all, I think 2020 is going to be an exciting year" and boy was I more right than I knew at the time! Never the less, I continue to look forward to bringing you more Avania.
