Alan Myers, the original drummer for one of my all-time favorite bands, Devo, has passed away.

He had the most impeccable sense of time and syncopation of any drummer I've ever heard. He made Neil Peart sound like Keith Moon. His drum parts were always interesting and intricate, and he delivered them like an automated sledgehammer. A monster of a drummer and musician. He will be missed.
I could sit here and try to describe what his drumming and music has meant to me as a musician and person, but I'd rather just let his music speak.
Even a casual appreciator of music can hear how unique, intricate, and special Alan's drum part is on this Rolling Stones cover.
One of my favorite songs (Wiggly World) live.
You will be missed.
We must repeat...
When I saw them live two summers ago, the only drummer they could find to replace him was Josh Freese. Devo with Alan was the perfect combination and I swear Devo wouldn't have been the same without him.
And just for shits and giggles (cause shit's funny, right?!), here's a clip of them from the show I was at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DIKmUUe2a7o
