One artist pointed out that the jaw-bone isn't supposed to start under the ear. I'm going to try and figure out an aesthetically pleasing place to put it in relation to the proportions.

Another referred me to the golden ratio. I think this is going to come in really handy actually-- being able to abuse the golden ratio should produce really interesting proportions, e.g. setting an elongated snout to be the larger half of the ratio in proportion to the radius of the skull.

I'm really enjoying this method to drawing. One of the things that's been holding me back all this time is seriously just not understanding, period, how to visualize a three dimensional space on a 2D plane. It didn't click. I was pretty much incapable of seeing visually.

As I was working through the John K. curriculum, I noticed that when I copied his examples, then free-handed my own examples, my own examples were rubbish every time. I didn't really understand why. Then one day I decided to draw the diameter from the back of the skull to the front of the skull, based on what would wind up sounding like mathematical babble. That gave me a view into the Z-axis of the whole page. It was really weird. I lost sleep that night because suddenly I was capable of seeing in three dimensions. I didn't stop processing it for a few days, in fact.

Either way, I'm gonna probably be doing this more often. I've gotten a lot of positive reactions from artists and others alike on the 2D side-view formula-- and after the input I've gotten, I've still got a lot to work on. (Interestingly enough, I learned the "proper" way to hold a pencil tonight. That was pretty neat!)
