Child's Play (2019) - movie review by JohnStripedfur

When I heard they're remaking Child's Play, my first thought was, "It's going to be terrible." Mainly because most, if not all, horror remakes had been terrible. The Amityville Horror (bad), Friday the 13th (terrible), A Nightmare on Elm Street (interesting change, but not enough), Halloween (awful), Haunting (horrible), Texas Chainsaw Massacre (couldn't live up). So, you can see why I wasn't too excited about the Child's Play remake. Even though the original is a slasher classic, it's not exactly a game changer in the movie business. If they have to do a remake of Child's Play, they have to do something extremely different.

It is very much different. Instead of a serial killer putting his soul into a mechanical doll. It's a A.I. robotic doll hooked up to a internet cloud. And it's a learning type. And from what I saw, I think it's actually more creepy and scary than what the original did. Even though it was scary enough, it doesn't hold up for today. This time, it's more modern. And I think that's more scary. But, it is cheesy. It's set up to be a 80's cheesy slasher movie and it kind of works. A couple of the kill scenes were unique, but the victims were cliché for today. It had a hard time trying to get it together in the beginning, but once Chucky becomes more evil the more he learns along the way. That's when the movie became a bit more interesting.

Overall, if you're a fan of the original, you might like this movie. If you're not into horror or slasher movies in general, it's a skip.
