Aladdin (2019) - movie reivew by JohnStripedfur

When Disney announced their line up of upcoming Disney live action remakes of their classic animated features and Aladdin was among them. Aladdin was one of the few I was excited about. Because I figured they'll do something completely different. Like a darker take of it and make it more of an action/adventure. Completely different from the animated version. But then, as the updates about the movie keep coming and they said it'll be a musical. I was worried. Because if there's one major criticism on the Beauty & The Beast remake is that it's a beat by beat remake. Even with the changes and additions to the movie. But, I am still hopeful that the movie will at least be enjoyable as they try to make their own spin of the animated classic.

And I actually enjoyed it. The sets looked great, the effects looked great, the actors did a great job with the characters they played, and the songs are just as memorable as the animated version. Will Smith really did a fantastic job playing The Genie. Even though nobody can top Robin Williams voice acting ability in the original, Will Smith did made it his own and that's what works.

But, I have to be honest here. Even though I did enjoyed the movie, it does have some problems. Guy Ritchie put some of his usual camera effects of slowing down and speeding up here and there. Some of them worked, others didn't. I didn't like some of the things at the ending and at the beginning, but the middle did worked mostly. I thought Jafar in this version is pretty close to the animated version. Just not as memorable. Aladdin and Jazmine are pretty much the same except a few changes.

Overall, if you love the original animated classic, you'll enjoy this movie almost as much.
