New Computer! by foxboyprower

I've mentioned it in another journal, but I have a new computer. I bought the parts online and assembled it myself. This is the first time I've done something like this so I'm very proud of myself.

I poured all my money into the parts that I didn't have enough to buy an operating system. So my new computer is running linux. I just recently strung Ethernet cord around (and through parts of) the house so I could have internet. The computer I've normally used is a college issued laptop so I don't have administrator privileges to install anything. So I'm very excited to be installing whatever software I want on this thing.

By the way this is the first journal I'm posting from the computer itself.

Currently the computer has lots of potential. The parts including a nice graphics card cost me a total of $1000. Hopefully this will be a good long term investment. With three fans it's a bit noisy but I don't mind it over the sound of my own fan (it's a bit hot nowadays and A/C is expensive). File management might be an issue since I'll still be using my laptop, but I'm sure I can figure it out.

So hopefully I'll be able to play video games on this thing pretty well. Although I don't have money for those now.

When I do get some more money I'd like to invest in a better keyboard, some nice monitors, and the best chair I can find (I'll be using it a lot now that I'm using a desktop).

Anyways this journal has dragged on long enough, and this old keyboard is making my wrists hurt.

I'm really happy for ya dude! Certainly need an OS soon though, if you plan on playing lots of games xD

Yeah I've noticed that. Turns out installing all that was mostly a waste of time. I'll just save up for windows 7 now. X3

Glad to hear you got the computer all built and set up. Well mostly. Although to have everything but the OS is pretty impressive to have done on your own. Let me know if the next time we talk you're using the new computer.

I probably won't be. The keyboard is a bit of a pain. Plus I realized using linux for a gaming computer is pretty much a dead end. Almost everything I do on that computer (outside of a browser) will be a waste of time.

Huh, well that's sad to hear. Although maybe with a bit of work and some upgrades later on when you can acquire them will help with that

Mostly the limiting factor is money. So I'll just have to wait until I earn more.
