MnFM18, EFS18, and MFF18 (MASS) Deerbriefing by Buck-Aye

Haven't done one of these in a good minute and been a bit delinquent on (plus a lot of backloading is on the way) so here's a deerbriefing of my three most recent cons, MnFM18, EFS18, and MFF18~

MnFM18

Pro's

  • Most notably was the lovely park right outside of the hotel that allowed for fursuiters to roam around (excellent for photo's)~
  • Restaurants of the hotel were pretty hearty and spot on (food in the nearby areas was pretty diverse, though a bit of a walk.)
  • They had a fursuit parade, which is something far and few with conventions and nice to participate in.
  • Room location to where everything was going was pretty nearby, so I was able to hop right into suit and get out to interact.~

Con's

  • If you're smoker (like me) city laws don't allow for the sale of menthols at gas stations-U
  • I could see some ppl viewing the con as "bland" or "lacking" a theme (however I think it's actually a good step forward and a better use of time and energy to work past that.)

Revisions

  • Probably needed to be a lot more interactive with folks, felt like parts of it were a bit lacking.
  • May need to bring my own smokes when heading out into those parts.

Summary: I really gotta say, this has probably become one of my favorite furcons I've gone to so far, and even some of the cons are really trivial when looking back~ I could genuinely see myself heading back to it if the time and opportunity presented itself when hosted. It was really laid back, well ran, and got to run around in suit quite a bit. Also being able to hang with friends was a really big plus.~

With MnFM18, I'll give it a 4/5 ~

EFS18

Pro's

  • Nicely compact and with ease of access into all areas.
  • Well ran and expeditious with virtually no lines or any sort of holdups.

Con's

  • Lack of restaurants in the hotel and nearby within walking distance.
  • Incredibly tiny for a con, though however understandable, but it will need to expand into somewhere bigger or with a more expansive area in the coming years.

Summary: For what it is, Emerald Fur Summit is probably the smallest con and setup that I've been to during my time involved with the community, but it was well ran and did what it could for the size of it. I would say that they should take some ideas from events such as ESG and attempt to apply something similar.

For EFS18, I give it a 3/5 ~

MFF18

Pro's

  • Was FINALLY able to make it out to the Hoff House and do what I wanted to do~
  • Made it on time and was able to participate in the events that I wanted to (including fursuit photoshoots.)
  • Had no issues with finding ppl to help with handling or taking photos or video of me with.
  • Met up with friends that really made it into a wonderful time.
  • Virtually full usage of the convention center made things flow over much more easily.
  • The heaters within the skywalk were partially cut off, making it much easier to pass through.

Con's

  • Weather wasn't too good, rained a little bit here and there, making it a little more complicated to walk around.
  • Registration line this year was insane.
  • Arrived on a Friday, probably should've swung by on Thursday to start the event.

Summary: The con this year was a really big turn around from the prior year, and after getting the very first thing I wanted done handled and out of the way, made it way more easier to actually enjoy the con. So how does it stack to the other MFF's? I'd say it was better than '14, but not as interesting as '16; middle ground, but still a major improvement nonetheless. Will I go next year? Still too soon to say one way or another, but everytime I say I won't go I end up going.~

So for MFF18, I give it a 4/5 ~
