Venom - movie review by JohnStripedfur

I've been a fan of Venom for a long time. Mostly because he's one of Spider-Man's biggest enemies for a long time. I really like his origin and how he evolved over the years. He was pretty popular from the late 80's all the way throughout the 90's. But lately, not many people talk about Venom like they did 20 years ago. So, when I heard that there'll be a Venom solo movie, I was a bit interested because I love the character. But, when I also heard that it will not feature Spider-Man at all, I wasn't pleased. How can they do a Venom movie without Spider-Man? Spider-Man is the main key to Venom's origins. Not to mention that this movie will the be the start of Sony's Spider-verse. A separate superhero cinematic universe that features characters based around the Spider-Man comic books that have yet to be featured (or at least in a good way) in their own movie. Which, by logics, sounds like a bad idea. Though, Sony has been trying that for a long time and unable to do so. Pretty much, this movie is the end all be all for Sony on whether or not they can do their own superhero cinematic universe without Marvel's help. With that being said, let's see how this movie plays out.

This movie, however, isn't as bad as the critics made it out to be. But, it's not really good either. It feels like it was made in the late 90's, most of the 2000's. Back in the day when the only superhero movies out there were Blade, Spider-Man, X-Men, Daredevil, and Electra. There are some good parts in there. Like Tom Hardy doing a really good job of playing the characterizations of Venom itself. Something that Spider-Man 3 tried, but failed. The origin got most of it right, but one major thing was left out and that is Spider-Man himself. And no, he's not in it as the rumors say. But, there is a special cameo from someone and an end credit scene. Though, the end credit scene makes it feel like a sequel bait that will never come. I do like the visual effects they made to the symbiote itself. At least they got that part right.

Overall, not a good movie, but wasn't terrible either. Might satisfy half of Venom fans, but not all Spider-Man fans. And I have a feeling that Sony's planned Spiderverse won't happen. But, we'll see how it'll play out in the box office.
