FurCan 2018

After being 10 years in the fandom, here in Mexico there had never been convention-like events since just last year began to emerge. If I wanted to go to conventions, I had to travel out, travel to North America.

Even though I have always been very active in the community, attending furmeets, making good friends both local, as well as inside and outside of my country, I really dreamed that we could have events like Anthrocon or FurCon at some time.

Last weekend (July 20-22, 2018) I attended a first edition of a convention in Mexico: FurCan. In the beautiful city of Puebla.

With a very short quantity of attendees of barely 80 people, it completely exceeded my expectations. The attendees were very excited, many of them were attending at their first furry convention in their lives, and most of them were very excited to see fursuiters, who maybe we were only 8.

Being so few, I had the opportunity to talk with many people, to know much better talented artists such as Tigerlion, Cross from Gab Shiba, Lobbo, Arty & Chikle, among others.

The event included very Mexican things, such as closing the event with piñatas, and a very dangerous rain of pins that launched from a third floor.

I look forward to FurCan in 2019, and I wish the event grows even more and more.

We had a little adventure before arriving at the event. Supposedly we would arrive on Friday afternoon in Puebla, and that same day we would do the podcast that Koidel, Apolo and I do every Friday. But when we were in Mexico City, Apolo's car (with which we would arrive in Puebla) broke down, and we had to go to his house to change it. So we caught the traffic of the city, and we couldn't stop for dinner (we were still hoping to arrive before 10pm to Puebla to be able to reach the radio program.) We better resign ourselves not to arrive at time, and we prefer to stop and buy pizza and having dinner on the way, we arrived in Puebla until midnight.

By canceling the Friday show, we decided to move it to Saturday. It was titled "Viernes Furry pero en Sábado" (Furry Friday but in Saturday).

On Monday we returned from Puebla to Mexico City, not without first visiting the cathedral, trying some "cemitas" (a very yummy thing from Puebla), and letting Alf give us an express tour around his beautiful town.

20 years in the furry fandom

That's right, on August 3 of this year I will be exactly 10 years as an official member of the furry fandom, even if I've been a panda for 20 years (or at least that's how old my panda character has been). I have a post prepared that I will publish exactly on August 3th.

Will there be a celebration? Oh, yes! And a very VERY BIG ONE. Called: MEGAPLEX !!

It is a great coincidence, I was invited as Guest of Honor for this convention, located in Orlando, Florida. And this convention will begin just on August 3, the same day I met the furry fandom (which I did through a meeting of artists, I didn't find it online).

And here I will describe some of the activities that will occur on that day:

Megaplex 2018

I have never had so many events planned in a single weekend as it is from August 3 to 5.
Not only I'm excited, I'm also very nervous, because I and the stages where a lot of people can see me, are not get along quite well.

The first thing that will happen on the day will be to be present at the opening ceremony. I still don't know if I'll just be there, or they'll make me talk (surely they'll make me talk), but I agreed with NIIC, the other Guest of Honor of the convention (a very talented musician, I highly recommend listening to him), to attend this ceremony in fursuit. So you will see the derpy panda bear on stage to start the event.

Dealer's Den

Another great event will happen on that first day, during the dealer's den, table number 30, new merchandise will be on sale with my art, like t-shirts, stickers and prints. But it will also be the premiere of my first art book. There will be very few copies, so I recommend acquiring it from the first day.

NOTE: I will almost not be at the table, and I won't be taking commissions during the convention. If you plan to buy the art book and want it signed, I recommend buying it from the first moment (even if I'm not at the table), follow me on my Telegram channel (https://t.me/panda_paco) and there I'll let you know what time I will be at my table, only to sign books and sell merchandise, but not to make commissions (I'm so sorry)

Box of lies

It will happen the same first day: Friday, at 2pm. Moderated by Blitzen and K.P.
It will be a very funny game where the participants (in which I am included) will determine if their opponent is telling them the truth or a big lie about the contents of a mysterious box, which can contain anything crazy.
This will happen at the Main Ballroom.

Meet the Guests of Honor

Meet the guests of Honor, at 5:30 pm on the same day, in the same room as Box of Lies. We will be NIIC and myself, in an event moderated by K.P., where we will answer several questions, we will talk a little about our career and some probably funny experiences (I need to think on a funny experience). And the public will have the opportunity to ask us any question. There we will not be in Fursuit, we're attending this panel on our human disguises.

Viernes Furry: Charity edition.

And to top off the big anniversary day with a flourish, we will have a special show on our weekly podcast, where instead of podcast, we will stream with video.
During the stream, we will be handling donations boxes for the charity of the event, the C.A.R.E. foundation, dedicated to rescue wild animals and educate people to take care of them.

All those who give donations during the stream, will be given a special Viernes Furry item, exclusive from Megaplex.

Charity auction

If you want to buy an original Paco Panda, which will also have a lot of meaning, and certainly much more value in the future (hehe, let me dream!), You can do it at the charity auction, which will take place on Sunday, August 5, at 11 am, at the Megaplex Main Ballroom.

Three original drawings of mine will be auctioned, plus a small exclusive item of my 10th anniversary in the furry fandom. (Which won't be for sale on a regular basis, only to be purchased in this auction).

And finally, at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday August 5, I will run an educational panel of drawing, entitled "Switch-On to the mode: Drawing", where I will try to teach about how to draw with the right hemisphere of your brain. This small lesson will be useful for all those drawing or aspiring to the drawing, it doesn't matter if you consider yourself as a beginner, intermediate or advanced.

There will be many very exciting events, the truth is that I am quite nervous about what will happen next weekend. I hope you can accompany me, those who will attend Megaplex, in Orlando, Florida. FurCan 2018

Después de estar 10 años en el fandom, aquí en México nunca habían existido eventos tipo convención como apenas desde el año pasado empezaron a surgir. Si quería ir a convenciones, tenía necesariamente que viajar fuera del país, viajar a Norteamérica.

Aún así siempre he estado muy activo en la comunidad, asistiendo a furmeets, haciendo buenos amigos tanto locales, como de dentro y fuera de mi país. Pero en verdad soñaba conque en algún moemnto pudieramos tener eventos al estilo Anthrocon o FurCon.

El fin de semana pasado (del 20 al 22 de Julio, 2018) asistí a una primera edición de una convención en México: FurCan. En la bellísima ciudad de Puebla.

Con una asistencia muy corta de apenas 80 personas, superó completamente mis expectativas. Los asistentes muy emocionados, muchos de ellos apenas estaban atendiendo su primera convención furry en su vida, y emocionados por ver fursuiters, que a lo mucho eramos únicamente 8.

Al ser tan pocos, tuve la oportunidad de platicar con mucha gente, de conocer mucho mejor a artistas talentosos, como Tigerlion, Cross de Gab Shiba, Lobbo, Arty y Chikle, entre otros.

No pudieron faltar cosas muy a la mexicana, como cerrar el evento con piñatas, y una lluvia muy peligrosa de pins que lanzaron desde un tercer piso.

Espero con muchas ansias que se haga FurCan en el 2019, y que el evento crezca cada vez más.

Vivimos una pequeña aventura antes de llegar al evento, pero muy corta. Supuestamente llegaríamos el viernes en la tarde a Puebla, y ese mismo día haríamos el podcast que entre los tres hacemos cada viernes. Pero cuando estabamos en la ciudad de México, el coche de Apolo (con el que llegaríamos a Puebla) se descompuso, y tuvimos que ir a su casa a cambiarlo. Por lo que nos agarró el tráfico, y ya no pudimos detenernos a cenar (todavía ibamos con la esperanza de llegar antes de las 10pm a Puebla para poder alcanzar a hacer el programa de radio. Mejor nos resignamos a no llegar, y preferimos detenernos a comprar pizza e ir cenando en el camino. Llegamos a Puebla hasta las 12 de la noche.

Al cancelar el programa del viernes, decidimos moverlo para el sábado. Fue titulado "Viernes furry pero en sábado".

El lunes volvimos de Puebla a la Ciudad de México, no sin antes visitar la catedral, probar unas cemitas, y dejar que Alf nos diera un tour express por su hermosa ciudad.

20 años en el furry fandom

Así es, justo el día 3 de Agosto del presente año estaré cumpliendo exactamente 10 años como miembro oficial del furry fandom, aún si llevo siendo un oso panda 20 años (o al menos esa es la edad que mi personaje panda lleva existiendo). Tengo un post preparado (el cual solo escribí en inglés, disculpen, es que traducir tan largos escritos, como lo haré con este journal, es muy pesado, se duplica el tiempo de estar escribiendo) que publicaré exactamente el 3 de Agosto.

¿Habrá celebración? Oh vaya que sí!! Y una muy MUY grande celebración. Llamada: MEGAPLEX!!

Para gran coincidencia, me invitaron como Invitado de Honor para esta convención, ubicada en Orlando, Florida. Y dicha convención empezará justamente el 3 de Agosto, el mismo día que encontré al furry fandom (El cual lo hice por medio de una reunión de dibujantes, no lo encontré online).

Y aquí les describiré algunas de las actividades que ocurrirán en ese día, en el cual muchos de ustedes me podrán acompañar:

Megaplex 2018

Nunca antes había tenido tantos eventos planeados en un solo fin de semana como lo es el del 3 al 5 de agosto.
No solo estoy emocionado, también estoy muy nervioso, pues yo y los escenarios donde una gran cantidad de público me puede ver, no nos llevamos del todo bien.

De lo primero que pasará en el día será estar presente en la ceremonia de apertura. Aún no se si solo estaré ahí presente, me harán hablar (seguramente sí), pero acordé con NIIC, el otro Invitado de Honor de la convención (un músico muy talentoso, les recomiendo ampliamente escucharlo), en asistir a esta ceremonia en fursuit. Así que verán al derpy pandita en el escenario para comenzar el evento.

Dealer's Den

Otro gran acontecimiento ocurrirá desde ese primer día, durante el dealer's den, mesa número 30, pues saldrá nueva mercancía a la venta con arte mío, como playeras, stickers y prints. Pero además será la premiere de mi primer libro de arte. Habrá muy pocas copias, así que les recomiendo adquirirlo desde el primer día.

OJO: Casi no estaré en la mesa, y no estaré tomando comisiones para hacer durante la convención. Si planean adquirir el libro de arte y quieren que se los firme, les recomiendo comprarlo desde el primero momento (aún si yo no estoy), seguirme en mi canal de Telegram (https://t.me/panda_paco) y ahí avisaré en qué momento sí estaré en mi mesa, únicamente para firmar libros y vender mercancía, mas no para hacer comisiones (Una disculpa)

Box of lies

Ocurrirá el mismo primer día viernes, a las 2pm. Moderado por Blitzen y K.P.
Será un juego muy divertido donde los participantes (en los que yo estoy incluído) determinarán si su oponente les está diciendo la verdad o una gran mentira acerca del contenido de una caja misteriosa, la cual puede contener cualquier cosa disparatada.
Esto ocurrirá en el Main Ballroom.

Meet the Guests of Honor

Conoce a los invitados de Honor, a las 5:30pm del mismo día, en el mismo salón que Box of lies. Estaremos NIIC y yo, en un evento moderado por K.P., donde responderemos varias preguntas, hablaremos un poco sobre nuestra carrera y algunas experiencias probablemente graciosas (Tendré que preparar alguna). Y el público tendrá oportunidad de preguntarnos. Ahí no estaremos en Fursuit, si iremos con nuestro atuendo humano.

Viernes Furry: Charity edition.

Y para rematar el gran día de aniversario con un broche de oro, tendremos un programa especial, donde en vez de podcast, transmitiremos en stream con video.
Durante el stream, estaremos pidiendo donaciones para la caridad del evento, la fundación C.A.R.E., dedicada a rescatar animales salvajes y educar a las personas a cuidarlos.

A todos los que den donaciones durante el stream, se les dará una insignia de Viernes Furry, exclusiva de Megaplex.

Subasta de caridad

Si quieren adquirir un Paco Panda original, que además tendrán mucho significado, y seguramente mucho más valor en un futuro (jeje, dejenme soñar!), lo podrán hacer en la subasta de caridad, que sucederá el domingo, 5 de agosto, a las 11 am, en el Main Ballroom de Megaplex.

Se subastarán 3 dibujos originales míos, mas una pequeña insignia exclusiva de mi 10º aniversario en el furry fandom. (La cual no estará en venta de forma regular, únicamente para adquirirse en esta subasta).

Y por último, a la 1:30 pm del domigno 5 de agosto, haré un panel educativo sobre dibujo, titulado "Switch-On to the mode: Drawing", donde enseñaré (en inglés) sobre cómo dibujar con el hemisferio derecho de tu cerebro. Esta pequeña lección será útil para todos aquellos dibujantes o aspirantes al dibujo, no importa si te consideras principiante, intermedio o avanzado.

Serán muchos eventos muy emocionantes, la verdad es que estoy bastante nervioso por lo que ocurrirá este siguiente fin de semana. Espero me puedan acompañar, los que vayan a asistir a Megaplex, en Orlando, Florida.
