Entangled Shadow by Deerality

In the year 2007, a very strange video took Youtube by storm. The video was titled "Creature Sighting In National Park". That was it. There was no description detailing where it was filmed or what national park. It has been speculated, however, that the recording was shot in Yellowstone. The video itself showed a blurry, 700p clip of a forest at sundown, dusky but not quite night yet. The first minute or so of the 3 minute video showed this shot of the forest, but with a weird static sound for the audio and what sounded like wind blowing or someone messing with the camera. Around the 2:30 mark was where things started to get weird. A black creature with the physique of a cervine was walking past some trees, slowly at first then darted so fast it was almost unseeable. Now, you could tell this wasnt a normal deer or elk that happened to be roaming the forest at dusk. The first thing that let you know was the fact that deer are not normally solid black like that. Deer and other cervines can indeed be melanistic, or all-black, but it is rare. Secondly, I slowed down the footage to get a closer look. The legs and hooves of this creature appeared... skeletal to say the least. It took me a while to notice it for myself, but their were several comments pointing it out, and I decided to see for myself. Now, the footage wasnt clear at all, and this could've just been a mangy deer in the shadows, with the legs most heavily affected. I held onto that suspicion until I zoomed in, and noticed an unnatural protrusion coming from the creatures head. It bore two large, antler-like structures, but they appeared very thin and spindly, almost like tree branches in winter. Ok, I thought. This isnt real. Theres no way anything like that could survive in nature. I just closed the video, dismissing it as some prank among tourists or a filmography class on a field trip who decided to get very creative with CGI.

I went to bed that night, but couldnt stop thinking about that video. What if it was real? Why would the park rangers get in trouble for releasing information to the public about the location of this footage? Several people asked where it was filmed, but all were met with a response that the officials weren't allowed to release details or face a liability charge. I had watched that video five times over, including some re-uploads that zoomed in on the creature and slowed down the video to where details were noticeable. Whatever, I thought, still latching onto my skepticism, and went to sleep.

I awoke the next day more curious then ever, and I wouldve almost forgotten what I saw if this wouldnt have occurred. I searched Youtube for the video, but the original was gone. Taken down just like that. I checked my history for the re-uploads and they disappeared too. Not only from Youtube, but there wasn't any trace or mention of this video in Google links, or other video sites like Metacafe, DailyMotion, or Veoh. It had only been up for a couple days but amassed 2 million views and hundreds of thousands of comments. Now it was gone, as if it never existed. I, for one, found it extremely odd that such a mass-viewed video could just vanish like that without anyone talking about it or asking what happened. I decided to try something new, after scouring the internet for any sources or traces of the footage. What I did find was a couple Yahoo Answers questions, and answers to them saying a few people noticed the same thing, and how a few people managed to get hold of the audio track through BitTorrent, and a rare few got the actual video through such means.

I went to an online forum, to play a little discussion game, as anyone who witnessed weird crap like this would do. A few minutes later, I got some replies to my thread. One of the interesting ones was that the locals dubbed this creature "Entangled Shadow" because of the shadowy look and the way the black parts wrapped around the bones of the legs. Okay. THAT's attention to detail. I scrolled through the thread and found no mention of the Youtube video, or why it was removed. Another piece of info I received was that very few people who witnessed the thing in real life would speak about it. They did, however say they got hold of a static, chilling, interview where a man said the entity followed him to the edge of the woods upon exiting. I was intrigued, but creeped out at the same time. I had to leave for a bit, then came back to check my replies. I logged in. The thread was gone. It had been deleted by mods without even so much as a warning or PM why it was removed.

Now, 10 years later, there has been no further mention of this incident since, and it does seem the world has completely forgotten about this mini web phenomenon. Nothing was solved and the only thing that stood clear was the fact that I still don't know what I saw.

Maybe it’s like the spirit of the forest, so to speak? Like in that anime film, “Princess Mononoke”?

There are many unexplainable things that happen, but people want to NOT believe in them, because it’s maybe too scary to believe in them. But I think they’re out there, for real......

True. I definitely think ghosts, aliens, angels, etc could definitely exist but a lot of people say they don't because there's no proof they do but at the same time there's no proof they don't. This story is just one of those pastas but I think similar things may have happened irl. There's so much we still don't know.

        Definitely true!

You can’t say that other life on other planets can’t exist because—well, we can’t travel to prove it for one. But honestly.......if life can evolve on one little planet in the cosmos, surely it can form on others! Same goes for other unexplainable stuff! :)
