Thor: Ragnarok - movie review by JohnStripedfur

Before I get to the movie itself, I'll talk about my thoughts on the first two as well as Thor's involvement in the Avengers movies. The first Thor movie was decently good. It's a basic superhero movie set in a fantasy world with a fish-out-of-water story. Typical, but still fitting for Thor in the MCU. The second one, Thor: The Dark World, was just as good. Pretty much the same except more Jane involvement because of Natalie Portman. His involvement with the Avengers have changed a bit in both movies. In the first one, he's pretty much the same like he was in the first Thor movie. In the second one however, he seems more comedic. And I've noticed that they are making Thor into more of a comedic role than a serious heroic role that Thor has mostly been known. And that's where it brings to the third movie. Thor: Ragnarok.

When I first saw the teaser and the man trailer, I had a couple thoughts about it. It looked like a fun movie, but it's probably going to be different than the other Thor movies. And I was right. It's definitely way different than the first two. The first two were a bit more serious and has a fantasy tone in them. Fitting for the hero Thor. But, the third one, is more comedic. It has the same type of tone and fun bits like the Guardians movies. Which brings me to say that Thor: Ragnarok feels more of a Guardians movie than a Thor movie.

Don't get me wrong. I had a lot of fun with this movie. Lots of good action scenes, good funny scenes, and each character worked in this tone. But, at the same time. I feel like this should've been a Guardians movie than a Thor movie. Kind of feel the same way on Guardians 2. They put in a little too much jokes in this one than any previous marvel movies. Just as much as Guardians 2, though. I feel that if they scale back the jokes and make the tone a bit more serious, than it'll be a Thor movie. I get it that they have to keep the franchise fresh by making each movie differently. They did that with others. Like Cap 2 was more of a political thriller, Ant-Man was a heist movie, Guardians of the Galaxy was a space fantasy opera. What I like about Thor is that they put in a fantasy like world in the MCU. And I thought that fit well, but they decided to do something completely different in this one. Which I get and I still enjoyed it. Do want to see it again. I did like they put in a bit of Planet Hulk storyline in there and it did well. The fight scenes are excellent as always. And we get to see Thor's Viking rage, which is awesome. And the Immigrant song by Led Zeppelin is well done, too. But, at the same time. It feels like it would've been better in a Guardians movie.

Overall, this is a fun new edition to the MCU franchise. If you like to see Thor done in a new way, see this movie. Or if you just like to see a fun marvel movie because you like the MCU movies so far, then you can see it, too.
