Hummm... by SpiderMilkshake

So one of the features of the rating system on here I really admired and liked now no longer exists. :/

I have always liked that Weasyl HAD an option for content that was a little too suggestive or violent for young kids but not outright gorefest or hardcore adult, an effective "PG-13" level for the Internet where occasional blood, racy hints of things a prepubescent wouldn't get, and strong swears could belong. WELP, now it doesn't exist, rendering Weasyl's rating system yet another "all-or-nothing" zone.

I now have no idea if my past "Moderate" submissions are actually what I would consider for the "General" category. I know for sure there are some things I don't think a 10-year-old should see that I've put up that would now be shunted over into General with this change. And further ahead... I now have NO idea how I'm going to continue submitting things that aren't OVERT but also aren't "E-10 and up" without feeling like I'm mislabeling it.

This is literally the first change Weasyl has made I don't understand or agree with. Is it a change due to laziness?--bandwagon effect with other furry websites?--someone's genuine thought that it would make browsing easier or better somehow? I really don't know at this point, but I suspect it's mostly the first two.

It's kind of always been up in the air though. Just, because a rating system exists, doesn't mean it'll be enforced by each, individual uploader. Only when the content is too extreme, or breaks rules, will a mod step in to either fix, or delete whatever it is. Personally, I don't find most uploaders to be too diligent with how they handle their submissions. A lot of people don't even bother tagging. They just stick what they think works as a rating.

I will agree though, it was nice, then it got flawed, but they're still coding this website slowly. Just give Weasyl a bit more time to mature. It doesn't get the traffic of FurAffinity, InkBunny, or DeviantART, so things are a bit slow here.

I liked the moderate category too. You would be surprised that a lot of users found it extremely confusing, that's just one of the reasons we decided to dumb things down a bit.
Feel free to jump on the forums and discuss it with us there if you like. Any feed back we get is appreciated. :)
