Vore Tournament 2.0.0 Alpha - Huge thanks & hosting strategy by Mircea

First of all, wow... you are all amazing: After my previous post, I went from $350 to $500 in only 3 days! A few of the big pledges are temporary mind you, so I might be going back a bit within the coming months... never the less I am truly grateful for this.

Onto the important news: Granted none of my patrons decide to pull out at the last moment before the 1st, which I sincerely hope is not a thing anyone would have in mind at this point, I see no way for the target to have not been reached. As such, it should be safe to say that Vore Tournament 2.0.0 is 99% guaranteed to happen next month!

For this reason, I've already started putting together a plan for how I will be hosting the release. And at this time I can gladly say I've finished it. So for those who are interested, here's how things will go down:

Apparently the solution is once again GitLab. Apart from hosting the development exclusive Git repository, I recently learned it also offers users the ability to create releases; This is done by using tags, which GitLab knows to interpret as release points, creating a unique page with a downloadable archive of the tagged commit. I should therefore be able to make a temporary branch containing a version of data_voretournament tuned for release, tag the last commit, then delete the branch: The tag should persist and offer the downloadable version of that specific release. This commit will mostly contain different versioning settings, as well as the compiled gamecode which you normally generate yourself. For the end user, downloading will be as easy as you expect: Click the URL, download the zip, extract it (to your Xonotic installation), launch xonotic.exe with the correct parameters, and play!

This approach is even better than my initial one, which was hosting the zip elsewhere... this was before I knew I could do this sort of thing straight from GitLab. My initial thought was hosting it on xonotic.org, however the Xonotic team decided against offering hosting for mods at this time... I might still ask Eka whether she's willing to offer an alternative host on the Eka's Portal servers, but for now that's not a priority. If by chance I run into trouble with building the release on GitLab, putting the zip on mega.nz is a last resort that should assure everything goes smoothly.

As always, if you wish to offer your support to the Vore Tournament project and further help its development, doing so is still greatly appreciated! Also if you'd like to test it or simply are impatient to try VT out early, you can attempt cloning and compiling the development version yourself.
