Where I have been for almost 2 weeks. by ManaPuddingFox

I've been hella sick. You may have seen if you follow me on twitter (sorry for the twitter spam about the matter :V )

Two Wednesdays ago I had this terrible coughing and sneezing fit during the evening. I just thought it was the beginning of allergies and shrugged at it. The next day? I felt like absolute crap. I felt so bad that I left work around 10am (work starts at 8:30am). Didn't know what was wrong- kept coughing and feeling achy and all that bullshitty stuff. Kept getting worse and worse even though I thought I would get better by the weekend- like I normally do. When last Monday rolled around and I felt like death I called out (boss wasn't happy at the time) and went to the doctors. He determined it was a cold in the chest (major chest congestion, inb4 chest jokes- no, it sucked) with possible bronchitis, due to a VIRUS. How do you cure a virus? You do nothing- you take care of yourself and let your immune system destroy it. I was prescribed a cough syrup to quiet the cough and help me sleep.

During the week, these were my symptoms:

  • Mass coughing from my chest
  • Coughing up phlegm
  • Sore throat due to coughing
  • Aches
  • Headaches and neck aches
  • Shortness of breath
  • Fatigue
  • Loss of voice

The doctor recommended I'd stay in bed a few days. Well, I'm an idiot and decided I could just go to work and deal with it. So wrong. Last week work was hell on earth. Staying up like that at work ran my body down like you don't even know. Yes, simple work, but I shouldn't have been up, or talking. But I was so nervous about my boss getting mad- especially since he had to make a trip out to the other side of the states were our servers were. He wasn't even in the office Thursday or Friday. But when I would go home, I'd crash in bed. Maybe try to eat, just to try and beat this sickness.

Needless to say, I didn't get better. Doctor told me to call back on Friday if I am still sick. And that is what I did as soon as I woke up. Told them what was happening. Explained I couldn't even lay on my right side or back at night without INSTANTLY going into a coughing fit. I wanted to go in again but they said they would speak to my doctor. They called back and left me a message- I definitely had bronchitis but it was due to a BACTERIA infection. They called in an antibiotic for me this time. My mom offered to pick it up, she also got some decongestant cough syrup to help break up stuff. I couldn't make it at work on Friday. I left at 2:30pm.

Getting home I almost broke down- my throat felt like constant barbed wire being pulled out of it, breathing was hard, all I was doing was coughing. An hour or so in with antibiotics in me? All those little sickly feelings started to go away and SOME shortness of breath disappeared. Doesn't sound like a lot but it was a wonderful feeling when you have had a week of no real progress. With the weekend all I did was lay in bed, relax, take my medicine (antibiotic, decongestant, cough suppressant (suppressant was needed as my throat was destroyed) ), bask in my vaporizor steamer, and just.... vegetated.

Antibiotics are wonderful. This weekend helped me get back on my feet for today. I am still not 100%, more so...... 90% about? I'm getting there though. I don't feel deathly like I did before. Right now, I don't really cough all that much anymore. I can breath but deep breaths are a little hard, NO sick feelings, no more headaches/ neck aches, throat is still a little sore- but that "I'm healing" sore feeling. Should be gone soon.

One bad thing still though, I lost my voice. Ended up getting laryngitis from all the strain and coughing. When I talk, I have a super raspy tone. And with breathing not at 100% talking sometimes = coughing. Fun fun fun.

I haven't been this sick since I was a kid. I used to get sick A LOT as a kid too. Been to ERs, my pediatrician's dozens of times. My forte was ear infections. Oh yes, got those all the time. During this whole ordeal, it just reminded me of all those times.

My boss you say? My mom spoke with my coworker (also a friend) and explained everything (not that she needed much explanation- even she was telling me to go home. She ended up relaying the message to my boss. My boss didn't realize how bad off I was because I never said anything. He told me I should have contacted his wife- a manager at a doctor's office. She would have told me to get in contact with my doctor sooner to get those antibiotics, could have maybe gotten an inhaler too. But once he knew what was going on- he was fine with the day I took off and the days I left early. He was definitely happy to see me healthier today too.

Where I have been for almost 2 weeks.
