How can I improve my art? by Ryngs

How can I improve my art?

I am seriously asking you (the reader): How can I improve my Art?

I am not looking for a critique of anyone posted piece of art, I am asking in general. What can I do to make my art more “Wow” and more “Eye Catching”, and “More Enjoyable” for you all.

Tell me what elements I can incorporate into my future work that make you WANT to look at them.

Thank you.

    I love how you incorporate realism in your images. But looking through your gallery I see this. https://www.weasyl.com/~ryngs/submissions/118295/the-witches-offering More of this (stylization in general) would be really nice to see, even if it's just once in a while.

    And. Maybe more experimentation? Different compositions? More action?

      Noted... This is similar to a reply to a question else where. Stylization and Saturation seem to be my weaknesses atm. Thank you {Bows}

    Your work is superb, I can imagine how you can get better (and it makes me want to give up because I will never be as good)! Please do NOT screw with perfection!

      {Evil Grin} Time to burn it all down and start over! MUHAHAHAHA!!!

    I think your work would be better if it included phenol derivatives and microemulsions.

    Sorry guys, this is not the time to pat him on the back, you need to have demands. Give him what he asked for.

    cracks whip

    I think you would get more meaningful feedback if you would paint something and say "I want this painting to convey X". Then you can ask whether it really does convey X, why that is, and if there is something you can do to make it better. Because, now rather than having a big open-ended question, you have the organizing principle of X. Without a reference or aim, there can be no feedback on the painting as a whole, only feedback on differences between parts of the painting.

    I hesitate to comment on art unless comments are requested, but usually I don't have anything to point out that the artist hasn't already seen (I do think it's good to bring those up though). Although I see several of your paintings have received only glowing praise when there are still things that could be improved. I don't like to point out everything that seems off in a lot of things because I'm afraid the pitchforks will come out... And there is an element of guilt when I want to point out flaws in a commissioned work.

      Some more musings on X... If X is a simple adjective or any single thing, your work tends to be generic. You may decide you want to convey "nobility". Well, you would probably succeed. But you would also probably unintentionally convey humility, honor, grace, etc. You end up with a painting that glows and everyone is amazed by it, but as soon as they walk through the door they have forgotten about it completely. But what happens if X becomes "nobility, but not grace" or "kindness, but not sanity" or "empathy, but not wisdom".

        I can see this. Thank you. I will add this to my notes. {Bows}

    you're kind of my go-to artist for showing off furry stuff, so it's hard to say you're doing something wrong. Going through your gallery, though, I think these pieces stand out to me for some reason.

    there's something really friendly about them. friendly and casual, maybe. relatable? this is really hard to describe, but something about them makes me drawn to them.

    I also think maybe showing off your less realistic side more might have a certain appeal.

      to that last note, there are times where realism is a little awkward for what you're trying to capture, which becomes less about technique and more about how things look when they're done. this one stands out as odd, even though it's beautifully captured:

      Noted. All artist have their good and bad pieces. Thank you for your input, and making me your go-to artist {Wink}
