What if Bandai Namco Bought Frogger? A Daily Dragon Speculation by BlazRtheDragon

Hey, everyone! BlazR the Dragon here. Before I go on topic as to what this is about, I would like to clarify that I haven't gotten the chance to upload a lot of new episodes; I've been recently helping out my alter ego throughout January and around February on a five day private project that will lead us to the worldwide launch of the Nintendo Switch. I can't say what it is, so my guess would be "bananas". Anyway, with that put aside, let's get into the good stuff! :D

For those that don't know what, or who, Frogger is, it's a name of an arcade game, released in 1981 by Konami. It was later licensed to SEGA as a worldwide publisher, before dropping the Gremlin name, and allowed players to take five frogs to safety before the timer runs out. Among dangerous hazards include getting run over by cars; falling in water; failing to go through the safety area; getting killed by a snake, or getting eaten by a deadly alligator / otter. It's really addicting and fun to play, unless you'd have the plug and play controller of Frogger like I did around Saturday when I took some time off with my dad. Frogger was, to say the least, the face of Konami by attracting kids, adults and even frog lovers who would do anything to give this little amphibious butt some love! And as time progressed, he was hopping to history, making him the most recognizable arcade character next to the likes of Pac Man. Or, in this case, a recognizable icon within the golden age of arcade video games! So, in the mid 2000's, Frogger sported himself a biped appearance, with unique clothes but together. At that time from when I was a kid, I loved that design! It was like an anime kid's dream come true. But as time went on from being a teen, to an adult, things have changed. And I was totally peeved! Frogger felt that he was extraordinarily obsolete and dormant, thanks to the popularity of the Metal Gear franchise. Though, I normally don't have anything against Hideo Kojima and his wonderful take on that. We'll get to that in just a minute.

Back to Frogger. When time passed on, his cute anime like appearance went from this... into a dangerous redesign. What a crucial punishment towards those who grew up with Frogger! But that didn't stop Konami into making more games, until they hired a very greedy CEO and president. Who "is" the president? It was none other than... Hideki Hayakawa! (thunder clashes) Recently, Hideki Hayakawa is currently a CEO and president of Konami Digital Entertainment, and, right at the start, we didn't know what kind of change it will be. Unfortunately, that change became a reality. And holy ravioli! Was it THAT bad! He kicked Kojima out of the picture; he cancelled good video games by firing well known producers, developers and creators; made up BS excuses; lacks support for AAA games within consoles; shifts to mobile gaming as a terrible fate, and gotten Silent Hill being lured into a pachinko slot machine! And you know what's worse? You wanna know what's EVEN worse than everything he has done as the president of Konami? Guess what? He's making a game... called Metal Gear Survive. Without Kojima Productions involved! D:

Yes, I know what you're thinking about the outcome. He is definitely one of the WORST people I have ever experienced, thanks to that one collab that features everyone's partaken project to sway away that monstrosity. In fact, many people have been wondering IF Konami plans to sell away the IP's that Hayakawa doesn't give a frick about. And that's where the main topic comes in! Today's episode of the Daily Dragon Tab will be a full on topic titled, "What If Bandai Namco Bought Frogger?" Now, of course, everybody should understand this: Frogger is targeted towards kids, and Pac Man, too. So, from the mergers of toy manufacturer, Bandai, and the legendary game creator, Namco, I think it's safe to say that allowing Bandai Namco on owning the rights to Frogger would be a top notch swing-and-hit! And when the makers who brought you Pac Man, Galaga, Pole Position, Tekken, the Tales series, and many other fan favorite classic hits, there's only one new member that should deserve to be rescued from Hayakawa's crazy fetish about pachislot machines. And that's Frogger! And before I get into the reason, lemme demonstrate of what the heck a pachinko machine is. Now, in pachinko, it is an illegal, yet somewhat a popular, machine that allows adult players to purchase little metal balls at the counter. By picking up a plastic tray of balls, you can take a seat and place all the balls in the pachislot machine. You can then use the rotating knob by aiming at the jackpot, depending on skill and luck. When the ball hits the jackpot slot, it goes straight into the screen, and puts players to the test by winning big prizes. If done successfully, the player can then take the tray of balls back to the counter and exchange them for either a prize or none. So, yeah. That's basically what it is, but for now, let's sit back, relax, grab a slice of pizza and a cup of Pepsi, pop up a quarter and listen closely to all the main good reasons why Bandai Namco would specifically own the rights to Frogger! :D

1: A brand new Frogger game for kids!

Imagine a brand new Frogger game that has a mixture of action, adventure, platforming and dazzling fantasies that should never be denied by Konami. Imagine a new plot for what is happening within Frogger's home, including his friends. Imagine some sort of a co-op adventure where up to either two or four can team up and tackle against Swampy's massive alligator madness. And not to mention; the part where new characters arrive and aid Frogger and friends, similar to TREASURE games. The best part? Make it anime like! Just like you did with the Tales series, but even more cuter and similar to Pac Man and the Ghostly Adventures. We'll get to it in just a bit, but for now, back to this reason. No matter what platforming console it will be, the secret is out there. Hey! A dragon can dream, right? :)

2: A new anime TV series, but without being Americanized.

You know, these days are all about a simple mixture between video games and anime shows. So... why not make Frogger even MORE memorable to join in the fun! Picture it: it will be more of an action adventure fantasy show, whether it's free to watch online at Bandai Namco's site or on mobile devices, with the exception of a dying trend called television, and it will have an awesome plot. Frogger, Lumpy and Lily are tired of getting caught up in the middle between everyday problems, so they decided to join forces and go across an amazing adventure by tackling against Swampy and his maniacal plans to take over the world. Will they make him cry like a little baby, or will the amphibious trio end up becoming frog legs for breakfast, lunch and dinner as the gators' main course meal? If there exists a traditional anime series like that, I would totally wake up in the morning and watch one episode daily! And it would get positive ratings. Which leads us to...

3: Frogger toys, Frogger plushies, Frogger action figures... O-M-Goodness.

Now we all know that Bandai Co. Ltd. is the prime minister of Japanese toys. If Bandai Namco were to buy the rights to Frogger, there would be a worldwide supply of plushies, toys, action figures and a bunch of others! There would be characters themed to Frogger, Lily, Lumpy, Beauty, Ranger, Ninja, Swampy and many more coming along the way. I can see now that the whole concept of reviving a classic amphibian legend can all make sense for kids to hug, cuddle and / or enjoy the way they experience Frogger. Whether it's made as a collector's item, or just something for presents, Bandai has got everything covered. And, like their pals at Namco, they ain't stupid. Not even Digimon nor Tamagotchi can complain!

4: Ditch pachinko! Stick with cuteness!

There are two sides to each story: Bandai Namco is a good twin that guides us a whole library of awesome arcade games and interesting redemption titles. We'll be getting into it in just a moment. On the minds of a bad twin called Konami, it's no excuse to know that they're just wasting their pathetic time making pachinko machines and many other random crud. Bandai Namco stands out to be a good example of offering Pac Man playable and enjoyable on mobile devices, while Konami forces players to buy something from their variety of not-too-good micro-transaction games. That's very unfortunate, but if Bandai Namco has a 99% chance of avoiding that kind of trouble, they would purchase that IP I usually would go on to mention about, and make it all 100%! Sounds easy, right? Only if the guys at Bandai Namco would avoid being stupid, that is!

5: A new arcade game dedicated to Frogger!

Now, I know what you're all thinking about asking me, "Uh, BlazR! Don't you already know that there exists a modern arcade version dedicated entirely to Frogger where you just lick at various things and get tickets?" Well, no. That's not the point. The point is, if BNE does plan on owning the rights to Frogger, there would be two different kind of models: Frogger: Ticket Snatcher, where players can freely hop around by using a joystick and collect tickets by getting to the goal without getting killed. And Frogger: Prize Hopper, where the player can take five frogs to safety, much like the arcade game! Except you get a real world prize if done successfully. However, when you plan to add a giant roll of tickets, that's an option I would take to win myself a cool prize at the counter. Heh-heh.

6: An epic crossover between Frogger and Pac Man!

Now that Archie Comics already created a Sonic and Mega Man crossover, how about another round of two boys working together? Picture this: Two of the world's greatest arcade icons, Frogger and Pac Man, come together and save their own world from Betrayus and Swampy's devastating plan of world domination. In it, they'll need all the help they can get to tackle against ghosts and gators by using two kinds of methods: Hopping and Gobbling. Should they succeed, both Pac Man and Frogger will be allies for many generations to come! If a Pac Man and Frogger crossover becomes true, the pizza making company would draw so many fans demanding more. And more is what Bandai Namco would have in mind. Fans would go crazy and superbly ballistic over to how awesome it would be if there exists a brilliant idea like that! And I would never judge that kind of concept. ;)

So, these are my own speculations and predictions as to what would happen if Bandai Namco plans to own the rights to Frogger. I'll let other IP's take control by various companies and such, but I just wanna clarify my own opinion about my favorite developer taking their own precious frog home.

Do you agree with the list? What are your expectations for Frogger to be in? Which company has you stoked to ask them on owning the rights to any particular IP besides both Bandai Namco and Frogger? Be sure to sign off in the comment section down BELOW, and I'll check 'em out.

Lastly, if you're reading this, Bandai Namco Entertainment, I'm gonna end this topic off with a positive tone like this: You need to own the rights to Frogger and let him get a revived game. You need to rescue Frogger before he ends up being cooped inside a locked pachislot machine. You need to give that precious little amphibian some love and a new home, before Konami starts to make everything worse for their mascot. Are you getting all that? Good! And when you plan to use the money on owning the rights to Frogger, please lemme know about it. :)
