Should I include a glossary of medieval terms in "The Linen Butterfly?" Or would my readers prefer to look these terms up themselves?
I try not to be too heavy with these terms, but sometimes there is a very specific term for what I'm describing.
For example, I could just say "a ship," but if I specify that this ship is a knorr or a cog, it tells you volumes of information about what the ship actually looks like. I could say "waistcoat" or "vest," but if I say pourpoint then it would convey that this is a specific type of vest that other parts of an outfit lace to. I could say "warhammer," but if I say bec de corbin you'd know I'm referring to a type of warhammer with a long steel spike on one end.
Definitely looking for feedback on this. I'm heavy into medieval history and culture and I know that not all of my readers will be.
