Foxer Catfusion 2017 by anjel

I wanted to take a moment to thank all the wonderful people who made this con by far and among the most awesome furry fandom experiences of my entire 17 years in the fandom.
Firstly there is EarthenHare, our roommate and my dear friend who I had last attended FC with way back in 2003, using some of my student loan refund in my sophomore year of college to fly out there and visit. It was great getting to reconnect with her after so many years, and it was through her we got to go on some great outside-of-the-con adventures, including seeing Portola Redwoods State Park an hour west of San Jose, where we found tons of mushrooms, including a Psilocybe species, most likely azuriensis. She also drove us out to San Francisco on Sunday, and Triad and I got to go to the Haight Ashbury, where we were offered to buy both legal and illicit substances by no less than 4 people, of which we did not partake but were altogether very bemused by. I really want to thank Jethal for being our roommate and fellow adventurer in this endeavor, and while it will likely be awhile before she can return, I hope we can go to another furry con again one day together, and before it's been 14 years since the last one.

Then there is :westiebetch, better known as @sporeprince, who I am so happy to see has really found her niche in the fandom with her needle felting and am always glad to meet up with at cons when I can go to them. She helped us make the connections that made the Bay Area a lot more fun, as well as helped Triad with his chronic pain issue. I still kind of have to beat around the bush about it out of habit, but I guess I could be more direct since it is legal now in the state of California, and I happen to work for a cannabis testing lab. But, I kind of prefer vague allusions.

I also wanted to especially thank @TonyaSong who's talent simply astounds me now that I've gotten to see her perform. She was the third musician playing with @PepperCoyote and :@foxamoore at both their shows (the tame and well structured show on Friday, and the crazy and fun AD show on Sunday night), where she played both bass guitar and flute, and backup vocals. She had barely had time to practice any of the songs when she got on stage due to her ride up breaking down before the con, causing her to arrive late, but you would have never known it because she is that of an amazing musician. It was tons of fun to say "I'm with the band again" and also really great to support these very talented and amazing furry musicians. We're totally groupies now. Also Tonya hosted an extremely informative and awesome panel on Native American cultures and the fandom that I thought really helped bring awareness that many native cultures are active, dynamic and living cultures with evolving traditions and customs, and showcased lots of music and dance in contemporary among Native people. I think it went a long way to help dispel romantic assumption about Native Americans a lot of furries tend to make when then appropriate "Native American" (singular) culture. She has information from the panel if anyone is interested, and I found it to be a great resources for finding some exciting new musical talents, including Frank Waln . I wish we had more time together, Mio, but I know that we will see each other again soon <3

I also wanted to mention thanks to @dakotawolf who was our fursuiting buddy and also local guide to the Bay Area. I am happy to see you doing so well in your new environment and look forward to coming back next year and doing more fursuiting and seeing more of the Bay area. Together with Tonya, and one other furry, they made up all the @LobitaWorks fursuits at FC, and it still makes me happy that though we haven't seen each for some time, it is great to get to support @DenaliLobita work even from afar.

I also want to thank the Con staff, and people involved in putting on FC. This was the first con I actually felt genuinely included and my thoughts considered the entire 20 or some odd years I've been going to cons. The Con chair, Dax was very approachable and walked around the con gathering the opinions of lots of people about how the con was going for them. We loved the con so much we even opted to go to the Hiss and Purr sessions, something else I've never done my entire con career. We didn't really have much to hiss about though, and really wanted to tell them what a great time we had, from loving the con space to enjoying the fun little stamp game. The con was so much fun we are already planning on going back next year, hopefully with @Obonic.

A few other people I wanted to give a shout out to include @Sabotlours who I promise a dinner date at BFLC this year so we can get more time to catch up, @Matrices and @synchra for inviting us out to draw, and the really cool Dour badger, who we met rather serendipitously when he went to share contraband cider with the band but ended up sharing it with us instead. Finally a shout out to randomfoxfan who I met during the last hours of the con for me, who had come late but was new to the fandom and I encouraged to stick around at the dead dog party. It felt a bit like I was helping open the door to the fandom to a new furry fan as I was departing from what had been one of the best cons of my entire nearly 2 decade long association with the furry fandom. Welcome to the fray, furiend!

Most of all I want to thank my mate, TriadFox who I made Foxer Cat-fusion with at this con. I managed to finish his fursuit just in time for him to wear at the con, and while I wasn't exactly happy with how it turned out, he loved the fuck out of it. In fact we made three videos of him singing some of his favorite songs in his fursuit, which was something he had dreamed about for almost a decade now.

It was amazing getting to have all these great experiences and get to see my beloved mate have the con he'd always wanted to have, as well as celebrate how proud I am of him for graduating with his Bachelor's degree in Applied Science in Web Development, and get to visit one of the meccas of his profession.

So to conclude this long adulation of that which was my FC2017, than you all out there, you weird, some of your pervy, but all of you unique furry fandom for providing this rich and vibrant community that after almost 20 years I still find so much kinship throughout.
