The Top 10 Best Animated Childhood Shows by BlazRtheDragon

It's Day Seven of the Mii News X Daily Dragon Tab crossover event. In today's countdown, we'll be talking about the top 10 favorite childhood shows. You've guessed it! We're going to go back in time to the 90s, when everything was all cool, rad, excellent and very awesome. When I was born throughout the 90s, I felt that my childhood memories were awesome. But nowadays, I discovered that I was a true 90s Kid! And thank glob, I wasn't born with those silly modern animations and their marathon spams. Hmm. Marathon spams. Why haven't I looked that up on Google? Anyway, let's start the countdown off at...

10: Darkwing Duck

In Darkwing Duck, the main plot involves Drake Mallard (a parody name of Kent Allard from the comic book series, the Shadow) as he takes up a normal role of an unassuming suburban father to his adopted daughter, Gosalyn. Gosalyn also has a good friend named Honker, who is interested into science and robotics that can be used to overcome major challenges. But when night falls, this is Drake's chance of donning a powerful attire and become... Darkwing Duck! At night, his pilot of a sidekick, Launchpad McQuack, arrives and takes him through various locations upon the request of J. Gander Hooter, which he contacts him via a video phone. Along the way, he'll encounter his main series of nemesi, most notably Negaduck, Dr. Reginald, The Liquidator, Mega Volt, Quackerjack, and a HUGE ton of others! But in his city, he's not alone. In fact, he's got an awesome array of superheroes that can work for him, even when the going gets tough, until the tougher gets! As the saying goes...

Darkwing: "Let's... get... dangerous!"

Thank you. The show debuted in 1991 as a preview to the series, and would go on to being a commercial success. Then came the guys at Capcom, who decided to make a platforming game based on the show, and it sparked a similar reference to Mega Man. Which platform? The Nintendo Entertainment System. That, too, also became successful during the teen years. Man! Capcom did a lot better with Disney, even though they stayed loyal to Mega Man and his various adventures, without the need of Keiji Inafune, who... has done a whole lot things bad recently. But as for the show? Go watch it. It's one of the best known childhood shows that you can't miss out on! :D

9: Rocko's Modern Life

Now we're going to somewhere where it's all about the originally awesome Nicktoons. And our first destination? Rocko's Modern Life! In this series, it follows the life of a timid Australian immigrant wallaby named Rocko and his dog, Spunky, as they encounter various random dilemmas and situations that could lead him to mundane aspects of life. Ouch! Regardless, the only two friends he has made are Heffer, a fat and enthusiastic steer, and Filburt, a neurotic turtle who often feels uncomfortable or disturbed. Living next door to Rocko are a middle aged couple; Ed Bighead who is supposed to be some kind of a big boss, and his compassionate wife, Bev, who loves and adores Rocko as a loyal and loving BFF. Or, in this case, a future crush. We'll get to that part later on. All of the characters in Rocko's Modern Life are only based on anthropomorphic animals of various species, the vast majority of whom are mentally unstable. The main city that Rocko resided from Australia is O-Town, a fictional city that is located near the Great Lakes. When Joe Murray, the creator of the Nicktoon who also worked on Camp Lazlo for Cartoon Network, was interested into writing and creating the concept of how homogenizes wholly work, he had said from the following:

"I always got a big kick out of the businesses that were 'House-O-Paint', or 'Ton-O-Noodles', because their names seemed to homogenize what they sold, and strip the products of true individuality and stress volume ... and we all know, the American dream is volume! So what better company to create volume than 'Conglom-O', and since a majority of the town worked at Conglom-O, it should be called 'O' Town. I also wanted the town to be 'anytown' USA, and I used to love sports players with a big ZERO on their back. It was funny to me."

Now, let's talk about a couple of episodes that involve secret references that kids can't explain back then. Now, this was before we said the usual words like "Hell" or "Sex" or something like that. In one episode, Heffer falls down to his death, but not when he lands safely in the fiery depths of hell, which he is not allowed to spell it out in front of the kids.

Heffer: Isn't it supposed to be called--
(gets muffled by the reaper)
Reaper: Censored!

Then came another one, where... Rocko... becomes a phone operator... within a sex hotline.

Rocko: Oh, baby; oh, baby; oh, baby!
Mrs. Bighead: Rocko?
Rocko: Mrs. Bighead?

(BlazR laughs uncontrollably as Rocko feels EXTREMELY embarrassed that he dialed the wrong number, only to unexpectedly encounter Mrs. Bighead on the phone)

(stops laughing) Oh, yeah! And let's not forget the awesome part where a fat yet feminine hippo named Gladys (voiced by comedic fame, Charlie Adler) does a massive manly voice by getting Rocko into some serious trouble. Don't believe me? Let Gladys examine it for you. ;)

Gladys: (angered deep manly voice) HOW DARE YOU!!!

This show may be panned for using inappropriate content and jokes, but it still has that humor and satire all over again. And overall, I highly recommend watching it!

8: Dexter's Laboratory

Created by the one and only, Genndy Tartakovsky, who also did the works of Samurai Jack and the short lived show, Sym Bionic Titan, Dexter's Laboratory follows the story of Dexter, a young boy genius and inventor inside a secret laboratory that's within a giant bookshelf, only to be constantly pestered by his annoying sister, Dee Dee, while shouting, "GET OUT OF MY LABORATORY!!" He also has a bitter rivalry between him and his fellow genius / neighbor, Mandark. Or, should I say, "Susan". Don't tell Genndy about this! Other segments in the show involve "Dial 'M' for Monkey", which involves Dexter's pet simian which was called by his love in order to transform into an electric superhero, and (manly echo is heard) "The Justice Friends", (normal) a comedy show that involves the daily lives of Major Glory, Valhallen and the Infraggable Krunk and i do not mean that silly drink that no one wants to go near living in an apartment complex as roommates, dealing with various problems that are all around them. Oh, yeah! I almost forgot to mention that there exists a Puppet Pal Show, which is a coincidence to see that the segment is filled with live puppets. Can't blame Hanna Barbera for that! The show premiered in 1996 through 2003, as two creators: one was Genndy, and the other was Chris Savino, who later created the best flash animated Nicktoon, The Loud House, were involved with the show. And I should mention that Dexter has an impersonation of a thick accent of indeterminate origin, as stated by the creator himself. Now, I'm not interested into too many bad words, but there was one episode that had been revealed by the guys at [adult swim]. It was "Rude Removal", an episode segment where Dexter and Dee Dee split their own good personalities with the bad ones that constantly swear 12 times, before the normal Dexter made only one at the end of the episode, right before their mom shows up with a bar of soap at hand by cleaning out their mouths for using foul language. Even though the censored beeps were notoriously annoying, it wasn't long before everyone realized that it wasn't banned, nor scrapped. It felt unreleased to the public. Way to go, [adult swim]! Now do me a favor: bring Toonami into the usual Saturday nights inside of having it to be late. I hate being Americanized. As usual, this is one of the greatest cartoons that you gotta check it out for yourself.

7: Recess

As the bell rings (mind the five minute comedy show), the kids head on out to play at a local recess and they play around like they normally do. But in this series, it's all about interactions across the town! The series, Recess, follows the story of six elementary school students (i.e. T.J. Detweiler, Ashley Spinelli, Vince Lasselle, Gretchen Grundler, Mikey Blumberg and Gus Griswald) as they interact with other students and teachers, while talking about their own daily lives across a highly cliched school environment at Third Street. In it, the six handle made up microcosms of traditional human society that involve government, class system and an unwritten set of laws. There are only five members known to be a part of Third Street Elementary School: Principal Prickly, who gets easily bombarded by T.J.'s on-character pranks and jokes; Miss Finster, an elderly grouchy woman who forces the kids to get back inside and grouch the living heck out of everything, due to her cranky appearance; Randall, who devastatingly becomes more of a clever and sneaky dealer of everything; Miss Grotke, a peace loving and good manner teacher who has a kind heart to the kids; and King Bob, who is a ruler of the biggest red-yellow-blue colored playground set, which he was temporarily thrown out and being taken over by T.J. in a two part episode. I have no idea what it was, so I'll leave that up to you folks. It debuted on the Disney Afternoon in 1997 until 2001, and spawn a theatrical release called Recess: School's Out (even though it was never remembered at the time, but it's still good). Here's another trivia: Paul and Joe, who are the creators of the series, have also made a different show called Lloyd in Space, centering around a teenage alien named Lloyd as he deals with various situations. Look out, everyone! We've got a lone troublemaker around the block! As for the show? Look for it and watch it. You can't miss it without a single school bell ring! :D

6: Digimon

Digimon. Digital Monsters. Digimon are the champions! Remember that awesome show where it involves the DigiDestined working together and saving the Digital World from its gruesome nightmare? 1999, the year where Bandai made famous for its breathtaking win via Fox Kids and became a staple to furry fandom. I hope no one goes ballistic by the time they heard that. The series involves Tai, Sora, Matt, Izzy, Mimi, Joe and TK meeting each other at a summer camp by getting to know each other and blending in really well. But when snow falls in the middle of summer and a gadget named the DigiDevice appears out of nowhere, before the portal opens upon them and flung themselves throughout the wild digital world of monsters, that's when things are all about to get SUPER serious! They befriend all kinds of Digimon, mostly Agumon, Gabumon, Biyomon, Tentomon, Palmon, Gomamon, and Patamon. Then came series 02, and who else did they show? Veemon! He looks like a precious little blue lizard angel, waiting to be loved and care for... until he gets hungry, that is! >:3

The anime series was considered a top notch for both Saban Brands and Bandai, and was approved by the fans. There also exists a reunited revival of the series called Digimon Adventures tri. Now, I never even heard of Digimon before, until I got back home from my short Christmas vacation in Mexicali and was amazed of who MADE Digimon Adventure. It wasn't even Fox Kids, but it was made by Toei Animation. Way to not frick it up, Toei! Now you might wanna consider having Bandai Namco make more Digimon merchandise so that you can never be stupid. And for those of you reading this right now, may I suggest giving DIgimon Adventure a watch? ;)

5: Goof Troop

Goof Troop is a name of an animated sitcom comedy series that follows the life of Goofy and his rad son, Max, as they move in to the heart of Spoonerville, where they wound up being unexpected neighbors to Goofy's high school pal, Pete. Ain't that the truth? Alongside Pete, he has a family consisting of Peg, his wife; Pete Jr., a son who prefers to be called P.J. and Pistol, a daughter. As P.J. and Pistol became friends with Max, the three decided to do a whole ton of practical stuff that no 90s kid ever even thought of. It also comes in contrast with his father, while retaining the "A-hyuck!" and his humor had been sharply related to Max, seeing as how cool he is when being loved and cared. The show ran for over 78 episodes between 1991 and 1992, plus a special, involving Christmastime... and the part where Pete and his family spend the rest of their time in Aspen, Colorado, leaving Max alone with Goofy for the holidays. Though, the latter was originally going to be titled, "Have Yourself a Goofy Little Christmas", hence the parody name of the song. Much like Darkwing Duck, only available on the NES, Capcom also made a game that involves Goofy and Max teaming up and saving PJ from a series of pirates. You might wanna watch this well known show before you end up with that one guy who despises Sonic WAY too much! He's losing a lot of subscribers for bashing him and using too many F-Bombs. Now that's a big no-no there.

4: Quack Pack

Who could forget one of the show's most memorable moments with Huey, Dewey and Louie? After they undergo themselves a 90s feel to them? Not for Donald Duck himself, because he might be annoyed by their modern look, rather than going classic. Quack Pack centers the life of Donald Duck and Daisy Duck, and their teenaged versions of Donald's nephews doing everyday things: Donald becomes a cameraman alongside Daisy, who is really a reporter. They would soon travel around the world to seek out reported suspects, and deal around supernatural beings, just by filming and recording of what's going on before being published in media. The show ran for only one season with 39 episodes, and didn't gain enough popularity for a second season. But, hey. Who could possibly forget the part where Huey, Dewey and Louie become the T-Squad? Or the part where Daisy becomes big, and obsessed, with Tasty Paste? Or even Nelly, a spunky dragon with workout clothes and a pair of giant shoes? Or even... (cuts to a female gator who happens to be big, fat and wearing a wedding gown) Whoa. Now that's something. As usual, this is one of the most cherished shows you've gotta see it to believe its glorified silliness. And by that, I mean its humorous expressions. Can Paul top that? Not at all, ya silly modern fricks. ;)

3: Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends

Or, Foster's, if that's an abbreviation. Created by Craig McCracken, the same guy who brought you the original Powerpuff Girls (and not the reboot itself) and Wander over Yonder, which was handled by Disney Television Animation, the show, centered on made up imaginary friends that coexist with humans, follows the life and times of Mac and Bloo, as they hang around a giant mansion modeled for not only Madame Foster, the owner of the orphanage, but for imaginary friends. They also make friends with Wilt, Eduardo and Coco; even Frankie, too! But the biggest bully that is known within Foster's is none other than Mac's big brother, Terrance. Ick. You don't wanna end up being on the bad side of your life now, huh? The show debuted with a 90 minute television film/pilot episode, "House of Bloo's", then got a green light before being adapted as an animated TV series. With over 79 episodes and six seasons, it's no denial that Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends is considered to be the best Cartoon Network show to date.

2: Animaniacs

Okay, okay. It turns out that everyone's addicted to Animaniacs, and I should consider that a staple of being good. So, lemme come clean and say this: Animaniacs is supposed to be a variety comedy skit show where it involves the Warner siblings and their friends living in the heart of Burbank, where they have various places and periods of times. It boasts a large number of characters that shouldn't BE considered a miss, but I think it's better than to add some notes as to see who they are. So, number one: Yakko, Wakko and Dot being the main stars of this attraction. Number two is Dr. Otto Scratchansniff, who is a German accented studio psychiatrist that worries about the Warner siblings' zany actions. Number three is Hello Nurse, which both Yakko and Wakko let out a tone, "Hellooooooo, Nurse!" Great. Number four is Ralph, a security guard who will stop at nothing, but to chase the Warner siblings and kick them out of the studio for good. Number five is the CEO of Warner Bros., known as Thaddeous Plotz, who is a short, hot headed and money grubbing president of the studio itself. Now, we're getting into the periodic area, involving various superstars. Or, as I like to call it, The Animaniac Superstars! Pinky and the Brain involves the Brain being the leader, while Pinky is eccentric and unintelligent, but somewhat more loyal to him. Mainly because he makes a noise that goes like this, "Narf!" That should be a fad one day. Slappy Squirrel is a grumpy veteran who resides with Skippy Squirrel. However, unlike Slappy, Skippy is kindhearted and lovable, even though he's friends with Slappy. Goodfeathers involve a trio of Italian American pigeons: Squit, Bobby and Pesto. The Godpigeon acts as their loyal boss. Rita and Runt are a singing duo, consisting of a cat and a dog, while singing various songs, that were originally created by the staff at Warner Bros. Animation themselves. Buttons and Mindy involves Buttons attempting to save Mindy from dangerous hazards and other obstacles that could have a high chance of getting knocked out and being punished for Mindy's misbehavior. Another mention I would like to point out are Flavio and Marita. Now, they may not be main characters, but they can sometimes dance and cause a ruckus! The show involves the crazy adventures of Yakko, Wakko and Dot, as they cause mayhem and destruction all across the Warner Bros. Studio, while others have their own being made. Heh. Animaniacs in Burbank. There's no way that-- (sees that the Animaniacs are now at his window; BlazR looks surprised and nervous) Um... heh. Can I help you folks?

Yakko: We just wanna thank you for sharing the love for all of us Animaniacs at #2!
Wakko: Could've done it without our famous skits that made you laugh!
Dot: There's no exception for us members who wanna have a good time with the 90s kids. Even like you, as well!

BlazR: Well, heh. Okay, then! And now for something completely different.

1: Ed, Edd n Eddy

We've come to number one on this category, so my favorite childhood show of all time is none other than...

(whistle sound) Ed, Edd n Eddy!

Created by Canadian American animator, Danny Antonucci, Ed, Edd n Eddy follows the life and times of three preteen boys, known as Ed (the Brawn), Edd (the Brain; commonly known as Double "D") and Eddy (the unofficial leader and quarter collecting money grabber), as they live in a suburban life in the heart of the cul-de-sac, most notably Peach Creek. There, they invent various schemes and make money in order to purchase their favorite candy in all of Eddy's mind: Jawbreakers. Various characters include Sarah, Ed's baby sister who happens to be a trash-talking devastator against the Eds; Jimmy, a friend of Sarah who ends up being a punching bag to the Eds; Jonny is a plain old loner who holds Plank as not only a friend, but an imaginary toy that holds not-so supernatural powers; Kevin, the guy who rides his own bike and calls the Eds, Dorks (wouldn't be too surprised if my haters were called dorks for some reason); Nazz is a hot girl that only attracts to Jonny, Kevin and the Eds; Rolf, who is quirky, odd and usually happy immigrant who actually pretends to be a son of a shepherd. (cuts to BlazR looking at the product) And when I mean "Son of a shepherd", I'm talking about... this! (shows a Nintendo Switch box art of the Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, with Link involves and gets mistaken by BlazR's statement; laughs for a brief moment) Nah, just kidding. That's just a copy of the Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild being made for the Nintendo Switch, which we'll find out more around Thursday. Anyway, moving on! The Kanker Sisters (known as Lee, Marie and May) are a trio of sisters who have a disturbing crush to the Eds and Eddy's Brother is a villainous delinquent to Eddy, which he prefers to as Pipsqueak. But only in the Big Picture Show where Captain Melonhead was too late to attack the Eds before getting betrayed by his pals. And everything worked alright in the end; the show is fantastic; the animation ran smoothly; the voice acting is perfect and the expressions are just downright humorous! I totally recommend watching it on YouTube! Or, various sites, if you're lucky to find all the episodes being made intact without copyright infringements.

So, what do you guys think about this countdown? Do YOU have a favorite childhood show that should be considered a fan favorite hit? Lemme know what you think in the comment section!
