The Top 10 Best Mega Drive Games! by BlazRtheDragon

(singing while wearing some Bluetooth headphones) Mega Drive Does! 16 bit Arcade Graphics. You can't do this on Nintendo, Mega Drive Does! 16 bit Sports Action. You can't do this on Nintendo, Mega Drive... Does! Mega Drive... Does!! Mega Drive... DOES! MEGA DRIVE... DOES!! Mega Drive... (to the viewers) Oh! Sorry; was listening to this sweet looking Mega Drive jingle that are based on SEGA commercials. Anyway... ahem! It's day four of the Mii News X Daily Dragon Tab crossover event. In this "blast processing" episode, we're talking about the top 10 Mega Drive games that Mega Drive does what Nintendon't. Get it? That slogan right there? (cricket chirps as BlazR looks around while smiling awkwardly) I'm going to get force fed by a bunch of spaghetti, right? TELLMEIFTHISISTRUE

Anyway, let's get into the countdown!

  1. Toejam and Earl - I've always been a big fan of Toejam and Earl's quirky cartoony feel of being rapping aliens and being humorous of various situations. Toejam and Earl has become one of my favorite games when I first heard of them on a Real Arcade service that allowed me to play their game for about 60 minutes before the demo expired. Though, its sequel proved that it was all just a platformer and everything. But in the first version, we got the chance to look out for the hidden pieces of the rocket, also known as the Rapmaster Rocket 3000. The goal of the game is to find as many pieces as possible, repair them back to normal and head on back home to Planet Funkotron. For two player support, it's easier to find all the pieces, even when the other says, "Hey, man! I'm over here! Come and find me."

  2. Earthworm Jim - Remember that one game where you saw an earthworm wearing a space outfit that started out as a superhero in order to save the damsel in distress by an evil queen? That's where Earthworm Jim comes in at #9, and the entire animation for the game was created by, yours truly, Doug TenNapel. Yep, that's the guy who made other projects like the Neverhood, Catscratch, the 2014 version of Veggietales in the House and a point and click action adventure game, Armikrog. The main goal is to shoot Jim's way through various levels of humor, satire and lots of laughs that will leave you smiling for many years to come. As soon as Jim was about to meet and greet Princess What's-Her-Name (yes, that's the actual name made by Doug, not me), there has been some quick trivia based on Wikipedia: "Not only does she not return Jim's affection, but she is also crushed by the flying cow that was launched at the beginning of the game by Jim himself". Well, at least riding a cow of a cute steed wouldn't be TOO bad, right? Right?

  3. Splatterhouse 2 - Aw, man! Splatterhouse. I remember being that as part of my favorite Namco games. Did you know that Namco is one of the big examples of video gaming history that doesn't deserve stand out to be stupid? When it came to this game, it was horrifying, gruesome, gory and was freaking great. So, what do you do with an arcade machine like that? Well, make a sequel and put it on the Mega Drive. Because Namco deserves a lot from the blue blur himself. Even though this was the first and only Virtual Console game that became known to be an M rated title, this is basically a sequel to the original Splatterhouse. Only this time, Rick needs to save her girl again. It's still enjoyable as a beat 'em up, but once you play it, your friends won't be seeing your face when you enter the dark realm of the greatest horror game ever imagined by the not-so stupid life of Namco! :D

  4. Pulseman - Now I know that game hasn't been released to the public, due to SEGA Channel ruining the whole fun for the rest of us. But when I first heard of its source via the Nintendo Power mag, it looked so awesome! It was like they took the concept of Mega Man, but have a cuter anime boy be assembled and electrify against the bad guys who are corrupting the entire airwaves of electricity. In Pulseman, your job is to assassinate all the criminals who are out to short circuit the big city and tackle against Dr. Waruyama, a maniacal father of Pulseman, before anything gets worse. Hang on a minute. It wasn't developed by SEGA, save for publishing. Who made this game? (picks up the box and sees that the game was made by... GAME FREAK. BlazR looks at the logo in his surprise that the game had a huge reference to Pokemon) Oh, no. Oh, no! Oh, good glob! I forgot to tell Sceptile to not go near the-- (blobby scales pop out of the castle, as BlazR is being smooshed by his blubbery skin; muffled) Pool. The game's also available to download on the Wii Virtual Console, though, I assume of staying away from the Wii U version, because of the lack of the Mega Drive ports recently. Trust me; we'll get to the Wii U in the final day.

  5. Gunstar Heroes - Gunstar Heroes is considered to be one of the most CRAZIEST games that not even a Mega Drive fan like me could ever put that precious cult classic of a gem down. Its plot involves Red and Blue not only getting the four gems to give them all away to Colonel Red, but by rescuing their now-hypnotized brother, Green, they'll need all the shooting skills and combat moves to tackle against the entire army, and their hired group of smugglers who would do anything to rid the world of the Gunstar family. The game was published by SEGA and was, indeed, developed by TREASURE. Now, TREASURE is a name of a company that was founded in 1992 by former employees of Konami who got fed up with the same old stuff that contained all the repetitive content that they've suffered, like cartoons and turtles and small little specs that you need a magnifying glass to see. The developer is well known for making other classics, like Dynamite Headdy, Alien Soldier, Light Crusader, Radiant Silvergun and a whole lot more. They're like a legend among the developer industry, and would do anything to feel crazy about. Fun Fact: 3D Gunstar Heroes is also available for purchase on the NEW Nintendo 3DS XL eShop, so I suggest you better try this game out before you feel very addicted to it!

  6. Virtua Fighter 2 - Do you ever feel like you wanna practice your fighting skills before heading on over to the arcade, just like you did in the 90s? Well, with the power of Virtua Fighter 2 on the Mega Drive, it's never a bad time to work out your fingers and your fight pad skills. Much like the arcade version of Virtua Fighter, this game has the same roster and, unlike its counterpart, relies on its use of 2D characters mixed with 3D polygon based features. Tired of being beaten easily? No worries! If you visit the Options screen, head on over to the Player 1's Life Bar and hold down Button B. Then, when you let go of it for a few seconds, you'll see the sign, "NO DAMAGE", and are ready to kick those losers out of the curve. Now that's a dish best served cold, huh? I really wish this game were to be a part of the 3D Classics line up...

  7. Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles (or, Sonic 3 & Knuckles) - It's the one that started it all: & Knuckles! But we're not simply talking about that; it's the main game. And by that, it's huge! By connecting both retailed cartridges of Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and Sonic & Knuckles while utilizing its Lock-On Technology, you get to play as not only Sonic or Tails, but Knuckles as well. The main plot is that Sonic and Tails arrive at an island called Angel Island, but when the Chaos Emeralds were split into three, thanks to Knuckles' popped out encounter, both Sonic and Tails are forced to gather up all the emeralds (and the super ones) before Eggman snatches them first. After making progress, Knuckles befriends Sonic and Tails after making up the biggest regret ever by allowing both of them to teleport to another world, where Eggman has the Master Emerald by rebooting the Death Egg. Sonic then used all 14 emeralds to power up as Hyper Sonic to destroy "Baldy McNosehair" by sending him down to the ground and safely get the Master Emerald back. Just a quick spoiler alert warning to those that are planning to try the game out for yourself.

  8. Pitfall: The Mayan Adventure - You may exactly be wondering, "Um... why did you picked this game as a dormant one?" Well, lemme tell you something, pal. Have you ever heard of Bill Kroyer, the same guy who brought us an animated short film called Technological Threat and his feature film, Ferngully? Well, this is why I picked it. And as a result, Pitfall: The Mayan Adventure is a spiritual sequel to the original Pitfall, which debuted on the Atari 2600, prior to the game's development on the Mega Drive and other various ports. The Mega Drive version had the best animation, stunning gameplay and amusing music that makes you feel like you were in the jungle. For no unexpected reason, it was rated T for Teen, mostly because of its action and intense content. I wonder why? Maybe it's because Activision wasn't suitable for kids to play this game? I have no idea... Despite having positive reactions to the console itself, it was removed by the losers from Activision. Same goes to Shanghai II: Dragon's Eye, except that was based on Mahjong Solitaire. Luckily, I managed to keep one of the crocodiles who were hungry enough to enjoy their taste of my claw based lard. (cuts to a crocodile, who is eating BlazR's lard while smiling) Crocodile: Thanks for letting me eat your lard and staying here at your studio, Mr. Dragon. BlazR: Yeah, no problem. Seeing as how you became so big to ate my lard up, I'll let you be a pet next to my big fat Rango. Crocodile: Aw, thank you. I promise I won't eat him; I'll make friends with him! BlazR: Alrighty, then. You two have fun.

  9. Monster World IV - As I await the guys at FDG Entertainment and Game Atelier to make a spiritual successor to the Wonder Boy series, Monster World IV is a new kind of platforming adventure that lasts for about almost four hours. And it was the only Mega Drive game that took Westone a very long time to make this game more longer and powerful than the Madou Monogatari series. It features a young girl named Asha, who upon hearing spirits whisper on the wind pleading for help, embarks on a journey to find and aid them. Along the way she becomes master of a genie and adopts a small monster known as Pepelogoo. Since it is a departure from the "Wonder Boy" moniker, the game is set in a different fantasy world where the hero... is only a girl. Yeah, there ain't no one to aid her; it's just Asha and Pepelogoo being BFF's. There's nothing more satisfying then being partnered up by a wise dragon who would, someday, become the attention of love and respect.

  10. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 - This game marked a new generation of 16 bit arcade graphics and gaming action, as Sonic the Hedgehog 2 kicks things up a notch! With amazing graphics, full color features, cheat code enabling and multiplayer fun, there's never been a better time to enjoy the good life with Sonic and Tails being new partners like never before. This time, Sonic plans to go Super Sonic, unlike his first adventure where he only had six instead of seven emeralds. Surprisingly, the game was criticized for its slowdown multiplayer mode of its split screen capability. And that was when Super Mario Kart had an idea BEFORE that! Though, it's still enjoyable to play and remember the good times. But you know what else IS enjoyable? A 3D Classics port of the game now available for purchase and download on the NEW Nintendo 3DS XL, that is! :D

That's all there is to know about these games. Now, let's take a quick look at these other games that are considered honorable mentions! :)

Castlevania: Bloodlines
Contra: Hard Corps
Rocket Knight Adventures
Sonic 3D Blast
Boogerman: A Pick-and-Flick Adventure
Alien Soldier
Dynamite Headdy
Light Crusader
