I just read a Tweet about this from an artist who lives in the Seattle area. With all the stuff I've been hearing about Hurricane Andrew this stuff never really came to my attention until today. Scientists, it turns out, are worried that the remnants of Typhoon Songda might very well result in another Columbus Day Storm, which was a typhoon that hit Seattle, Portland, and other parts of the Pacific Northwest back on Columbus Day of 1962. Though I live in the DFW area of Texas now, I'm originally a Portland native, so this has me worried.

To all of you living in the Northwest, please stay safe out there. If what the experts are afraid of turns out to be true, this won't be your usual windstorm. In any case, I wish you all the best.
