They call it a "sleep study" but last night I didn't actually do much sleeping.

The wiring harness they had me hooked up to was supremely uncomfortable, for one thing. It greatly limited the positions I could sleep in.

For another, there was the 6:30 wake-up time and the deeply unsettling feel of this very institutional-looking room with machinery all around and an infrared camera that would, from time to time, make soft whirring sounds as it focused on me sleeping in my bed. Honestly, the whole setup- the wires, the camera, and the room that looked like something from a dystopian film, neither a hospital nor a hotel but something in between- triggered my paranoia something fierce.

I've had better nights sleeping in a tent in 60 mph winds, and that is not hyperbole!

Luckily, they did get the data they needed and I was out of the hospital with enough time to come home and curl up next to Kobi for a couple hours until it was time to go to work and spend 9 hours in retail purgatory.
