Computer Problems Part The Third by ACDragon

I think my first instinct about the motherboard being the problem was right on the money. Now I have more evidence than ever to back that claim up. I've done multiple stress tests and aside from one out of the four older sticks of Corsair RAM I was using as a backup for the Crucial ones I've been using all the time for the last year or so, the tests all came back with no problems at all.

Then I was looking at Speccy and came across an interesting find: in the Motherboard section of the program's UI, my 3.3V rail was listed as only having 3.118V coming in. This may not seem like a lot to the average person, but in the case of these highly delicate electronics it's actually quite a large amount. In fact, according to ATX standards, the absolute bare minimum that a 3.3V rail needs to deliver is 3.14V. That roughly 0.02V difference can indeed be enough to cause real problems with a computer, especially since the 3.3V rail controls all the components that have been going Cuckoo-for-Cocoa-Puffs the last few weeks.

So I went ahead and swapped my uber-nice EVGA 750W PSU for my old stand-by Coolmax 450W model, and when it was all said and done, the 3.3V rail was STILL only delivering 3.118V, the EXACT SAME NUMBER as the EVGA had been delivering. I highly doubt that this is a coincidence, and it only strengthens my belief that the motherboard is the culprit in all of this, because it is the motherboard that reports to Speccy what the voltage it's getting is, and the motherboard is reporting the same number for both of my power supplies.

I can only hope that my computer lasts long enough into Wednesday for me to be able to order not only a new motherboard but also a spare computer. I hate having to order another machine, but let's face it: this computer is the only way I can pay many of my bills, and this computer is the only way I can talk with most of my friends, so if this machine dies and I don't have a backup, I'm screwed. So I'll be ordering a refurbished laptop to use as a backup along with the new motherboard I plan on ordering Wednesday.
