Warcraft (movie) - review by JohnStripedfur

I wasn't all too excited for this movie. Ever since I saw the first trailer. It looked so much CGI heavy that I wasn't sure if the movie will be good enough. Granted I was a big fan of the original Warcraft games. Not the World of Warcraft. The online RPG game. The original PC strategy game. That's right kiddies. Warcraft was originally a strategy game. Bet you didn't know that, huh? :P

Anyways, I went in hoping it would blow me away and it'll be more like a fantasy war movie. And in a way it is, but felt a bit lost. Considering I hadn't read much on Warcraft material for many years, but I know the basics of it. Orc home world was dying because there's nothing left to fight. So, they discovered the human world of Azeroth and decided to go there. Then, disagreements happened and the first Orc-Human War started.

This movie is basically that, but tried to put a story in it. Which I do believe they tried their best, but since Warcraft is so vast with many storylines and such to choose from. At least they tried to tell the original story from the original game. But, the story is not that strong. Nor are the characters. I didn't care much for any one of them. There wasn't enough time to use to have any kind of attachment to any of them. Though, the CGI and the special effects were very outstanding. I bet it looked better in IMAX or even 3D. I like how they made references to the world of Azeroth and set it up nice and beautifully. Love the look of the Orcs and human fighters as they look exactly from the game itself. Too bad they didn't focus enough attention to story and characters.

If you're the type that likes world building and war like battles. Then, you would like this fine. For the general audience. I don't think it'll do much.
