Do you need a Fursuit to go to a Furry convention? by BlueKittyTales

Hello, ladies and gentlemen.

As well as having been unable to decide whether or not I should cosplay for my first anime convention next month, I've also hit quite a quandry when it comes to my flight out to America to go to GFM next year - and that is what I can or cannot do if the Fursuit I paid the deposit for on the 13th is not completed in time for GFM 2017, despite it still being ten or eleven months away. I'm aware of how long it takes to make a Fursuit, that different makers take different lengths of time, that I don't know precisely how long this one will be, and that you cannot rush art, especially if someone has a long queue, but at the moment, I'm just weighing my options.

My desire to attend Furry conventions is massive, to the point that they are my main priority and aspiration in my life now. But at the same time, I sense that I may not be able to go to any of them without a Fursuit to don - and I want to look the part for my first time given what these events are. As well as GFM, there are four other conventions I dream of attending, even if they don't happen in the same year that does; FurAffinity United, Confuzzled, AnthroCon, and one of the events run by Minnesota Furs, who I contacted to get advice on how to run Three Counties Furs and get Furmeets going when I relaunch it. Of these, Confuzzled is the only one that does not take place in America, but that's not a barrier to me. And I want to be able to attend all five of these conventions at least once before the end of the decade; it would be a dream come true. I also believe that I should have something I can dress up in if Three Counties Furs is successful enough to lead to the first gathering or Furmeet taking place before the first convention I plan to go to.

This month and all that follow it will be spent rationing with the aim of saving as much money as possible, since I made a majority of the purchases I need to in May; just four major purchases are left now, but these don't need to be made immediately. I could potentially put away several thousand Pounds before the end of the year if I can keep to it. I'd avoid bus rides, use my laptop more than my desktop, spend less on food, refrain from purchasing any more art, make careful use of the heating in the winters, and more things like that. I can't say precisely when I'll open for commissions yet, but I'm making sure to work on the projects still outstanding. I still have not returned to TF2, with today marking three months since my last game. And I'm not sure if I'll ever come back to it, though I'm glad I no longer have the stress and irritation of having to deal with the idiots who ruin almost every public game. I also have not spent any money on TF2 items since December, and it'll more than likely stay that way. I still have not decided whether to keep or sell my items yet, but if I do, I could bring in even more money.

However, I have also managed to find all of the accessories on EBay that I would require to dress up as Wesley. It's not even a partial Fursuit and Wesley, as you know, is mostly human in appearance. But what do you all think? Do any of you believe this would suffice at any Furry convention if the suit of Sharp should not be available? And do you think I should or shouldn't cosplay at my first anime convention? I'd love to get your thoughts on this, everybody.

    Absolutely not. There are more people there without costumes than people with. Of course you can always just wear a tail or ears if you want. Full suits are expensive.

      The friend I'm going to GFM with recommended I check out the maker who crafted his ears and tail, and I plan to do just that once I've had an updated image of Wesley made. ^^ Never realized there were that few costumes, though; I always thought they were worn by almost every attendee. ^^;
