Where do you think I'm at? by Taesolieroy

Haha, I'm not asking you guys to guess where I sit commission-wise - I'm still working away at that list! T_T slowly.. being sick wrecked the motivation I had built up, so I need to gather it up again to make this year's production better than last year's.

I'm more asking on the quality of the art I've produced (minus the adoptables) lately and the ratio to prices that I've put for myself.

I've heard plenty of people say I'm way undercharging myself, and I hear you, I really do! Personally however I feel I'm not at skill level to par with such higher prices, my own greatest critic moment right? My profile here has my tentative prices listed for the moment, though it'll be improved upon as people request enough of different commission types (no I won't ever do logos XP I'm not good at them nor do I have knowledge in making vector art. I've had past bad experiences of people misinterpreting when I say I'm a digital/graphic and traditional illustration artist and demand me to make some crazy logo for them).

The other thing is I'd love to get involved in big art projects with other people down the road, I'm just too flippin' shy putting my foot in there, nor do I know where to even start looking! So yeah, mostly I've been sitting here working on my skills to merit the end prices I'd like to establish, but it would also mean that I won't be able to tolerate folks who fuss at me about sapping their life money ($100 a month - is that really too hard a payment to request for a big piece? I've seen some costume fees ask for higher than that) to pay off for their final piece instead of upfront payment. Art is WORK - we have to make a living as well :C

I dunno.. What do you guys think? Should I push more for my real prices or work on the skill/style more and what 'level' do I seem to sit at?

And for those still curious about my list I will be updating my commission list shortly after I get back from work - as there are a couple that weren't listed, but are getting done.

Where do you think I'm at?

I think you're good enough to get hired as an illustrator. I've seen people get damn good jobs that have half the skill you have.

Outside the furrydom you should be asking anywhere between 15 to 20 dollars an hour minimum. You could probably get more, you just need to show your work, put it into art shows, send it to companies.

Inside furryland, unfortunately people expect art for so much less than what it's actually worth. I'd say 12 to 15 an hour.

Also, and this is my opinion, base your price on demand. If you're doing too much work, raise your price! It will drive away some of your customers and that's alright. You'll drive away the bottom feeders while still maintaining your income level.

I do base my work currently at $12 to the hour based on how slow I am currently XP Still working on improving the turnaround, and right now it's not in high demand in the fact I've been scarce in production to work and sicknesses.

The main question is where would I go to display my stuff? My art isn't exactly 'gallery' quality for a lot of places here in Atlanta that prefer oils and pastels XP
