As many of you have noticed, on the furry are many people that are considering the fandom as a work in life, mainly illustrators, cartoonist, fursuit makers... many kind of artists. I could say I'm one of them, I am freelance (independent artist), not everything I do is furry, I also accept other projects outside the fandom, but a large percentage of what I earn is thanks to furry art.

I don't think this is wrong, I think it shouldn't cosiderar as a bad thing, since the profession of "artist" exists, and each artist has always had a specific target; with the advent of the Internet, many can dedicate ourselves to this office much more easily, identifying our target market. The beauty of working this way is that I don't see as "clients" to those who pay me, but potential friends, I have made many friends thanks to the commissions, excellent friends around the world; and much less see it as hard work what I have to do, but a new challenge each time, a new emotion to convey, and always measuring my responsibilities, to fulfill what is asked me to draw and surpass expectations, painted smiles not only on who asked me the drawing, but in all who look at it.

Thanks to the Internet, not just the drawing artists have seen the benefit to practice our profession without hindrance third party (such as producers, agents, publishers, etc), there are many who share their talents with worldwide acclaim for their creations: as video blogers, musicians , writers, animators, filmmakers, etc.
But that fame ig gained for what they do, for the authenticity of their works, the originality, talent and above all, be themselves.

There are many people who want to jump to fame when they see at how easy it is, taking as a personal goal "being popular", thinking "everyone must love my work", "I will earn a lot of money from this." That I have seen in furrys, when they look a barely decent strokes in their drawings, are already offering commissions and showing their price lists, for instance.
As I said before, it's not bad to charge for drawing pictures, even if we have another profession or we are studying; I fully understand that this requires time, effort, dedication, and above all, previous experience of practice. But the point I want to make is: don't see art as a gold mine that will take you out of poverty, because that is not the true meaning of making art.

Art is the act of transmitting emotions and feelings (either negative or positive) to other people, and what we do, is because we like to generate that, we like to play with narratives that aim to move the thoughts of those who are receptors. We do it because we like it, because we love to do it.

Popularity is not important, the truth is that having a goal to be popular sucks flatly. Don't be seeking fame, that sometimes leads us to stop being ourselves, just to find what they like most people, and stop doing what we really are, as long as sympathizing to others. We have to be authentic, be ourselves, that's the only way we can express what we want to convey to the people with our art, that is the way we as artists enjoyed doing what we like to do. And believe me, this way is much easier than people like our art, because are our own pieces that represent us, which says who we are; and people, even unconsciously, realizes that passion we have when exercising our profession of artist.

Keep away the idea of ​​"want to be popular" or "I want to make money from this," rather think:

I'm doing of my life what I love to do.

Los artistas y la popularidad.

Como muchos ya se habrán dado cuenta, dentro del furry existen muchas personas que su trabajo en la vida es únicamente hacia el fandom, principalmente los artistas ilustradores y fursuit makers. Podría decirse que soy uno de ellos, pues soy freelance (artista independiente), aunque no todo lo que hago es furry, también acepto otros proyectos, pero un gran porcentaje de lo que gano es gracias al arte furry.

No pienso que eso esté mal, y pienso que no se debería de cosiderar como algo malo, pues la profesión de "artista" existe, y siempre cada artista ha tenido un target específico; con la llegada del internet, muchos podemos dedicarnos al oficio con mucho más facilidad, identificando nuestro mercado meta. Lo bonito de trabajar de esta forma, es que yo no veo como clientes a quienes me pagan, sino posibles amigos, he hecho muchas amistades gracias a las comisiones; y mucho menos veo como trabajo lo que tengo que hacer, sino es un nuevo reto, una nueva emoción por transmitir, y siempre midiendo mis responsabilidades, para cumplir con lo que se me pide y superar expectativas, pintar sonrisas no solo en quien me pidió el dibujo, sino en todos los que lo ven.

Gracias a internet, no solo los artistas nos hemos visto beneficiados para ejercer nuestra profesión sin trabas de terceros (como productores, representantes, editoriales, etc), existen muchos que comparten sus talentos y se crean una gran fama mundial, como video blogers, músicos, escritores, animadores, cineastas, etc.
Pero esa fama la ganan por lo que hacen, por la autenticidad de sus obras, por la originalidad, el talento y sobre todo, por ser ellos mismos.

Existen muchas personas que quieren saltar a la fama al ver lo fácil que es, teniendo como meta personal "ser populares", pensando "todos tienen que amar mis obras", "voy a ganar mucho dinero gracias a esto". Eso lo he podido ver en furrys, que, apenas y ven trazos decentes en sus dibujos, y ya están ofreciendo comisiones y mostrando sus listas de precio, por poner un ejemplo.
Como dije antes, no está mal dedicarse a esto, o solo cobrar por hacer dibujos aunque tengamos otra profesión o estemos estudiando; pues está de más decir que entiendo perfectamente que esto requiere de tiempo, esfuerzo, dedicación, y sobre todo, una previa experiencia de práctica. Pero el punto al que quiero llegar es que no vean el arte como la mina de oro que los sacará de la pobreza, porque ese no es el verdadero significado de hacer arte.

El arte es la acción de transmitir emociones y sentimientos (ya sea negativos o positivos) a otras personas, y los que lo hacemos, es porque nos gusta generar eso, nos gusta jugar con narrativas que tengan como objetivo mover los pensamientos de quienes son los receptores. Lo hacemos porque nos gusta, porque nos encanta.

La popularidad no es importante, la verdad es que tener como meta ser popular apesta rotundamente. No hay que estar buscando la fama, eso a veces nos lleva a dejar de ser nosotros mismos, con tal de buscar qué le gusta a la mayoría de las personas, y dejar de hacer lo que realmente somos, con tal de simpatizar y caer bien a los demás. Tenemos que ser auténticos, ser nosotros mismos, esa es la única forma en que podremos expresar lo que queremos transmitirle a las personas con nuestro arte, esa es la forma en que nosotros como artistas disfrutamos mucho hacer lo que más nos gusta hacer. Y creanme, de esa forma, es mucho más fácil que a la gente le guste nuestro arte, porque son nuestras obras las que nos representan a nosotros, las que gritan quienes somos, y la gente, incluso inconcientemente, se da cuenta de la pasión que nosotros tenemos a la hora de ejercer nuestro oficio de artista.

Mantengan lejos la idea de "quiero ser popular" o "debo de ganar dinero de esto", mas bien piensen:
