Debating Leaving Social Media by ACDragon

I hate to say it, but I get passionate about my beliefs and about the people and things I love. So when I get angry at hackers on Team Fortress 2 at 9 AM on a Sunday Morning only to have the cops called on me by neighbors who just moved in, it becomes obvious to me that my passion for justice is considered evil and can have real-world consequences that I am simply not prepared to have to go through.

I've had neighbors like this in the past, who heard everything I said, everything I did, policed every tiny noise I made. If I talked at a normal volume they'd call the manager. If I had the TV on at all during so-called "Quiet Time" they'd call the manager, didn't matter how high or low the volume was. I hate to say it, but I think the assholes who called the cops today are probably of the same sort of mettle as those idiots were. I've lived in this apartment for over a year and a half and have asked repeatedly if anyone heard me or was bothered and nobody ever was. Only this morning was there an issue. It was either the new neighbors downstairs or the new neighbors next door. No calls to management, no warnings of any kind, but they went right for the jugular by calling the cops on me for yelling at hackers in a video game.

Funny thing is, I wasn't even as loud as I usually am. Usually I'm much louder, screaming at the top of my lungs when people cheat. They cheat to make me angry, and when I get angry they accuse me of "just being bad" and therefore "jealous" of their "skillz," which in turn makes me even more angry. Since I can't afford legal fees or, heaven forbid, an eviction, I fear that leaving social media altogether is something I will have to seriously consider. If I leave the various art sites I'm on, I'll probably keep my galleries up for posterity. I might return to social media when I get into a place where there isn't some nutcase who calls the cops on their neighbors every time their neighbors sneeze, but that's a big "might" at the moment.

I will also most likely be leaving Steam, which is where I have most of my games. If Steam weren't so damned socially oriented I could just keep the games I like and not leave it, but because social media makes me much more prone to raging, and I now have oversensitive idiots for neighbors, I'm going to have to do everything I can to avoid getting angry.

I'll make my decision later today.
