Yo, what are cons like nowadays? by Haubitze

I've been kind of toying with the idea of going back to a couple conventions. Like, I went to conventions for YEARS, literally over a decade of cons (staffing and attending), but that's how I got burnt out. Now that I'm older, I really can't handle the hyper teenagers trashing stuff, or even the hyper adults at that, and.. I guess.. I can't really find a reason to go to a convention even if I want to? Everyone I used to hang out with years ago has either left the fandom or we've drifted apart. We used to throw room parties but I'm more hesitant about having strangers in my room now. I was going to have a fursuit partial made but Nambroth has been a very busy lady, busy with things that are much more important than trivial furry crap. I'm not an artist. I've been out of the loop for so long.

I feel like if I decided to go somewhere, I would wind up ditched by whoever I was hanging out with and I'd sit around in my room with nothing to do. I used to party pretty hard, I relished in drama, we did a lot of dumb shit and ran a lot of.. uh.. interesting groups...

Is there a place for me now?

Admittedly, a raptor or kobold partial would probably be quite well received at non-furry conventions...you might want to try your hand at an anime, comics, science fiction, or even tabletop gaming convention...

That's a good point actually, something I've never really thought about. Maybe if Nambroth finds the time and I get a partial done, I'll mingle with some different conventions.

Yeah, while just about anything can go wrong at conventions, you're probably a bit safer when you're dealing with a somewhat less narrow range of geeks.
