Born in Reykjavik, his mother was a native Icelander while is father was from a prestigious family in Glasgow, Scotland. His father was a psychologist, whereas his mother was an occult archivist that held down a day job as a librarian. She was also a devout follower of Asatru; a heathen. Additionally she was an outspoken social philanthropist that helped sponsor several groups that dedicated themselves to undermining and defending against Otherworld marauders.

During a social fundraiser in which both she and a teenage Thorolf were part of, the lycanthropic terrorist group Kirr'veth attacked the gathering, killing, infecting and doing as much structural damage as possible. His mother was a prime target during the raid and was slain; Thorolf barely got out of there with his life.

Afraid to return to his home for fear of the terrorists tracking down his father, he instead went to a safe house run by an old friend of the family, Margaret Maye (shortly thereafter she kept in contact with his father while she helped Thorolf). He lived with her for a few years while she counseled him during the difficult stages of lycanthropy. Always an introverted intellectual, he found increasing solace in books, (especially poetry and philosophy) and his religion. Margaret eventually revealed to him that she was a Faerie social worker, a changeling that helps displaced Fae and humans pick themselves up and get on with their lives.

A good three years after the incident he returned to his father's manse in Glasgow, telling him he wanted to pick up his mother's work, both on Faerie and on the Material (with some help from Margaret). Initially leery of the prospect, especially about meddling in extraplanar affairs, he agreed to help Thorolf regardless. He eventually became a well-known philanthropist in his own right on both planes, at one point helping a counselor to the Seelie Queen Titania herself, earning his Earl title on Faerie.

His father has long since passed away, and now Thorolf almost exclusively resides on his property in the Faerie city Maballiaon. He has done a good job keeping his lycanthropy a secret, and only a handful of confidantes know of this. A decade ago when he first moved to the Land of Youth permanently he had a bout of difficulty with his curse, devolving into a schizophrenic state in which his wolfish self (who prefers to be called by his middle name, Sigfried) would preside over a mage cabal who practiced the Dark Arts. This secret stayed buried, and he eventually regained control. He's still trying to put that bit of shame behind him forever...

~Personality~

Outwardly staid and old-fashioned, Thorolf is nevertheless very intelligent and observant of details, and is indeed very detail-oriented in most aspects of his life. Being an Odinsman, he is also wise and spiritual and often counsels his friends when they need someone to talk to. People describe his accent and way of talking as "an unusual fusion between old Icelandic and German." To those that don't know him he appears to be rather pessimistic, but this isn't really the case; he likes to plan ahead, and he prefers to thoroughly think something through before reaching a conclusion. He does prefer to be in charge though, which can rub some people the wrong way.

However, he does tend to hold people to a high standard, and gets increasingly irritated if someone continuously shows a lack of respect or manners. He almost never loses his temper but when he does it is a terrifying event indeed, especially around certain lunar cycles.

After so many years he has incredible control over his transformations, but if he's having a "bad month" he usually locks himself in one of his studies and instructs his butler Demosthenes to turn away visitors for a few days.

~Origins and Inspiration~

A character I made sometime last year after a discussion about werewolves in waistcoats. The jury is still out on how exactly I want to portray his lycanthropic form; I am fond of traditionally wolfish werewolves, but I want strong human characteristics, especially in his facial features. Still working on that one. There aren't really any individual instances or characters that inspired me to create Thorolf, just my love of werewolves, Victorian gentlemen and my avid interest in both Gaelic history and Norse religion.
