Deirdre has been a soldier for most of her life and she currently holds the rank of General. She is well known, and widely respected on her home island of Viridis, for both her military successes and her one-time love affair with the King of Foxes, but she is not very well liked. She's a borderline alcoholic with a mercurial temper and she is perpetually restless and easily bored. She is incredibly devoted to what family she has, though, and especially to her daughter.

Deirdre has spent most of her life fighting anyone who crossed swords with her, first as a regular soldier and then as a mercenary under the banner of anyone who would hire her. She fell in love, once, with a gentle fox who just happened to be the king of the most powerful city-state in her world. She raised their daughter almost entirely by herself, and she is determined not to die without leaving a positive impact on the world.

Deirdre has a reputation for being rather gruff and argumentative. She fights with words as readily as she will with a sword. Nevertheless, she is very kind and can be very generous when the mood strikes her.
