Triad Equinox - even his name gives a hint as to his character. Equinox being defined as: "The oldest meaning is the day when daytime and night are of approximately equal duration. The word equinox comes from this definition, derived from the Latin aequus (equal) and nox (night)." Thanks Wikipedia.

Triad could not be more accurate to this definition. Equal should be his middle name. Triad is the most passive, docile, giving, and loving creature you will ever meet. He will do anything for anyone else, and will give any soul his time, no matter how dark, morbid, "beyond help," or "beyond saving," they are.

Yet even Triad has boundaries, he knows "good" and "evil" are just labels in the bible. Hurt others, hurt animals, cause destruction to the world and Triad will know that means you are not someone he will associate with. When it comes to cruelty, torture, rape, stealing, murder, Triad will put up a front and will not interact with you. Does this mean you are "good" or "evil?" Not in Triad's version of these words. What you are is unique to you and only you can truly understand this, he will not label nor judge anyone, ever. He simply knows what he will not tolerate, and draws his lines there.

You may be wondering how this differs from other giving characters I have, such as Devon, Troi or even SW, and the answer is simple. In them, there are ulterior motives behind kindness, whether they are conscious of them or not. Triad has no motives, has no desires, he expects nothing from you. So whether you are like his best friend Neema, who talks his ear off and takes him on adventures, or like his friend Delu, who he sits in silence with, he will treat you all the same, with kindness, respect, and a passivity that does not show weakness, but shows true caring and love of any member of this "human race." His patience will forever surpass mine. Triad will instinctually know what is good for you, and will do it, but will not alter himself to your needs. He is quiet and will silently let you walk all over him if you wish to take advantage of his kindness. He will forgive you, knowing that your sins are typical behavior of our mankind.

Even with Anima - Triad knows his violence has virtue, and for this reason they have an understanding relationship. Dimitri is another story. Dimitri uses, abuses and hurts others. This is not something Triad will tolerate, so he does not interact with Dimitri nor would ever try to "save him."

So, Triad is a tolerant creature. He will give anyone a chance. But this doesn't change the fact that Triad is as introverted as they come. What Triad truly wants in his life is peace, and for him, peace comes with blocking out the world and living in what he finds comfort in - taking care of animals, in nature, in the true love he has found with Jase. Triad will be there for you as a friend, you will never know he's so reclusive when he's there, because he would not want to offend you. He wishes to be left alone from the world and the drama and perils it brings with it. He is the character that would slip under your radar; he's that "normal quiet guy" that you wouldn't pay any attention to.

So ultimately, what does Triad represent in me? He represents a part of me most people don't see. Most don't realize how introverted I am. I put on a good show of being social around others, though all I wish is to be left alone to my own life of watching TV and existing with my cats. Triad represents this.
He also represents the part of me that is a loner, a skeptic, a lover of nature, an introvert, he represents my love of animals, my shyness, my fear of people. Again, that side of me that is there but is hardly ever seen.

Triad will forever be that equal voice, to bring balance to my cast of characters. He is friends with the darkest of them, to the purest of them and all of my primary voices, to an extent, confide in Triad. Yes, even Anima, even Frostbite…. ones you would not even consider. Yes, even they reach to him for support because Triad is that one person you can tell a secret to, and KNOW that that secret will never be shared.

Triad exists for this, it is his purpose. But it does not change who he is and what he has gone through. His life was horrible, he was brought up in an abusive home. His Mother left when he was a child, and his Father began raping and abusing him at only 5 years old. Neema was his first friend, and love interest, who he was with for over 2 years before he realized he was gay. Despite this, Neema and Triad have been, and always will be, closer than any other two characters could be out of my primary voices. Neema helped Triad become who he is today, and without her he would be long dead and buried, and a much weaker person than he is.

Triad was a sad soul for so long, the abuse he took weighed on him but he suffered in silence until Neema. And it wasn't until he met his current boyfriend Jase (owned by Paula/Grimmorph they met back in 2002, so they've been together a long time)… that his life changed. Triad would still be under that ruling thumb of his abusive father, living in fear in his room in their Trailer, boarding it up nightly to try to keep him out while he cowered in the corner, because it always failed. Jase knew of the abuse, and one night walked in on it, hearing Triad cry from outside, running to his rescue. Some sort of rage snapped inside of him, and he murdered Triad's father. Triad even helped, to an extent, being weak and beaten he could only do so much, but it was a very cathartic experience. The body was disposed of perfectly, as Jase is a specialist in entomology and well, you can figure out the rest.

Jase came from a similar home that he escaped from, and he refused to watch Triad suffer any longer. They are almost one in the same, both love animals, both live to aide others, but are so passive and quiet and would rather live in a cabin in the woods on their own away from society. And they do. They have a home they built together that is also an animal sanctuary, where they rehabilitate injured animals and re-release them into the wild, transfer them to zoos, get animals well enough to go to zoos, or just keep them there under their watch. Triad is affluent and never has to worry about money - despite their absence Triad's Grandparents had set up a trust fund for him should his Father become deceased. They asked no questions when he did.

It was not until recently that Triad discovered he had a brother, named Benton, whom he has been estranged from for most of his life. They have reconnected and it has brought happiness into Triad's life in a way that wasn't there before. They are one in the same, but different in how they express themselves.

Needless to say, Triad has struggled with depression. He tries to find meaning and solace in helping others, in his passivity to the world. But when Triad is alone with himself, his inner demons will come out, and that self hatred and sadness will consume him. It's thanks to being with someone like Jase that he doesn't fall into that despair.

Triad's body is covered in scars, some of them deep and horrible, some lighter and less frightening, some carved into words like "worthless," "whore," "liar," "bitch," and more that his Father carved into him when raping him. Triad had slipped into self harm to cope with the abuse his Father dealt him, and when his Father found out, well, that "self harm" became something else. Therefore, most of his scars are from his Father. But even after his Father passed Triad has had slip-ups where he will get consumed in negativity and sad thoughts, wish the world wasn't how it was, wish he didn't have to see his friends suffer how they do, wish he didn't have to see animals suffer and hurt as they do, and for some reason he reaches for self harm. Probably because it was something so comforting to him in his past, it's hard to break old habits.

I'd like to mention as well, that Triad's species being chosen as a Basenji was not by chance. Basenjis are, to me, the "cats of the dog world." They are quiet creatures, they are the only canine that does not bark, they howl, they yodel. They are not social creatures, they are best kept as pets to households without children or other animals. They are not lovey-dovey types of dogs, they will prefer to do whatever they wish, and won't bond very significantly to their owners as other dog breeds do. They are aloof and are loners, and have behavior more similar to a pet cat than a dog.

So after all this you still don't know much about my Triads… and that's how he is. And that's how the role he plays in me is. The introvert, the quiet voice, the one who suffers in silence so that no one has to worry about his feelings. That's Triad. He may comfort others, and be great at it, but as far as comforting himself, that's another story. His sadness will forever be embedded in him, as will his passivity, his love of nature, and his need to be there to be that equilibrium for the rest of the world.
