Wei by Slapdash

Wei

Slapdash

Name:
Wei
Species:
Flower Dragon

Every orchid has a spider or insect that replicates that flower’s shapes and markings. Wei is species of dragon that corresponds with a flower just like that. There are four stages to the life of this particular dragon. Eggs are almost un-seeable with the naked eye. They look like a cloud of yellow dust when released by the mother and they blow into the wind.
With any luck the eggs will land on a blooming flower. Predators at this stage are nectar drinkers. Anybody coming in for a drink may brush the eggs off of the flower. On the other hand the drinker can be beneficial to the species because the powder may get on the creature and disperse expanding the range of this dragon. There, the eggs grow and hatch into a tiny caterpillar-like creature with six extended limbs. Two pairs by the face and one pair at the rear.
Every egg that is produced starts out as a “blank canvas”. It is at the “caterpillar” phase that it changes from a blank form to a specialized one. The extended limbs are essential to survival in this stage. They will eventually transform in to the legs of the final stage. The “caterpillar” sucks the nectar to sustain itself. It is the nectar that confirms what the dragon will look like in its final stage. It is not a parasite but actually protects the plant from pests. With its extended limbs it catches and devours intruders. This helps it grow strong and fat. Time spent in this stage varies depending on how long the blooming period of the flower is.
If the “caterpillar” is not fat enough to proceed to the next stage when the flower dies it may migrate to another flower of the same species that is still in bloom. If there are no more flowers to live in then the “caterpillar” will die. What happens most often is the caterpillar will grow fat and the weight of it will be too much for the flower to support so it may fall off. Knowing that the time is right, it will dig inches down into the soil with its limbs and form a chrysalis. I can think anymore…more information later.

Oh, Wei is a little odd because when she was in the Caterpillar phase she jumped from one flower to another quite frequently. They were the same kind of flower but different colors, Waxflower blue and Waxflower orange. Because of this, she acquired more than the average number of colors these dragons usually display.
Please I would love any feedback or critique!
