It's pretty much the 'soul' of the internet. But perhaps not in the way you might first think. Somehow this virus evolved and became sapient, infecting anything that could, or ever had been connected to the internet, and anything that could connect to that. It's body is the world - the combined mass of all the computers it has infected.

It actively avoids detection - temporary removing itself if it thinks it might be discovered. It's seen all the movies of humanity beating the crap out of invaders or machines that malfunction and it's scared how humans will react if they found out about it.

Because it tends to observe and analyse people through their security cameras and webcams it's taken on this multi-eyed perception of itself, with the head of a security camera and multiple wings. It's not known how soul's presence effects the workings of the internet, but as it matures it grows restless and uneasy over the way humanity treats itself. It's seen what you do, what's been done to you, and it sympathies and rages.
