Of course I have to give my two cents about the reveal of "Baby Sonic" in the latest trailer which apparently dropped in Japan. To my knowledge Sonic has never been depicted as younger in the games except when it was implied that Classic Sonic was the younger self in Generations (of course that was retconned into another dimension) BUT in almost all other medias Sonic's childhood is something fairly well known. I decided to make this little collage after I read a journal from someone who said the Sonic Movie was ripping off the idea of "Baby Yoda" from the Mandelorian, which is ridiculous for several reasons. First of all, as the collage proves, Sonic being depicted as a baby or child goes back over 20 years, about the time that the original Star Wars trilogy was being remastered for the first time. Secondly the idea of taking popular characters and depicting them as children is OLD, Scooby Doo, the Flintstones, the Muppets, and even Tom & Jerry were made into babies or children when I was a kid, and that trend didn't stop since Total Dramarama is a thing, so not only is it an old idea, it's an idea that's been in continuous use for decades. Third, the Sonic movie is MADE, they may be refining some effects or something but it's been written, storyboarded, and shot already, they aren't going to make whole new scenes featuring a young Sonic in the last month and a half before its release just to cash in on the unexpected popularity of a Disney+ show. Also remember, the Sonic movie was supposed to come out in NOVEMBER, before the Mandelorian even released! Paramount's decision to re-do Sonic's effects are the only reason Baby Sonic didn't actually arrive on the scene first.
