After much fussing about and trying to decide the best way to paint British webbing (the eventual answer: always bloody brighter!) I've finally finished what'll be the first section for the 28th Maori Battalion in Tunisia, Greece and Italy. These guys proved to be an interesting challenge in more ways than one!

I'm far more used to painting slightly larger 'heroic' scale figures like Space Marines and Orks, so the different style required to highlight on smaller detail required a departure from how I'd usually do it and instead focused eventually on chunkier, bolder highlights - these guys are going to be gaming miniatures and most often viewed under lights, so I wanted them to look sharp under those conditions on a tabletop.

The skin tone underwent the broadest variations, with the first being slightly too dark for Maori troopers, I thought. Eventually I settled on the common, slightly brighter tone on the leftmost four troopers and I'm pretty pleased with how that turned out. Now that I've got these guys under my belt I'm way more confident about tackling the rest of the platoon, and a Sherman I of New Zealand 8th Armoured Division in support!

I'm sure at some point I'll actually upload something that isn't human, but... today's not that day!
