Me Myself and I

driprat

When I drew this one a number of my friends were doing their version of the famous Norman Rockwell painting, and I was asked for a picture of my character, so I decided to jump on the bandwagon. But changed it up so that there were three characters shown instead of just the one.

Dave is sitting on the stool, Drip is looking back at him in the mirror and the Devil is being sketched on the isle.

I try to explain my relationship with Dave and Drip in the same way Hitchcock describes his two favorite male leads. Cary Grant, Hitchcock explains, is hired to play parts that Hitch wishes he could be, while Jimmy Stuart is hired to play the parts that Hitch fears are more like himself than he'd like.

Dave is certainly more of what I want to be, as I draw him in my comic, he is occasionally moody, but he has a happy family and he has gained some success with his art. Drip, on the other hand, I am often bothered by the things we have in common. I have never done the things Drip has and to that end it has helped to have an example of my worst nature so that I can mentally tell myself "That's some Drip thinking right there David" and warn myself off of it.

So why is Drip often used as my avatar? Ask any actor, its often more fun to pretend to be the bad guy ;)

And from the back ground, the Devil smiles on....

Legit always refreshing to see someone who admits how much he identifies with a misogynist.

Thank you for providing me the oportunity to clarify. I can identify, but I also realize that those are incorrect thoughts to have and therefor can avoid acting on them. I'msure its not the easyiest thing to convey and rest asured that even though you say it is "refreshing" I don't assume you identify yourself as a misogynist.

No yeah, I don't pretend your fantasy bleeds over much into reality. You'd be arrested by now, shoot!

I'm in this weird place where I've been influenced by your work as a kid, and I've also had to clarify on a lot of occasions that my nastier ideas can be very intellectually, morally, sociologically wrong. Finding out that your fursona is the nastiest dude in your comics just, y'know, shone a brighter light on that.
