I feel like, considering she wasn't a completely physical entity, she'd be whole and unbroken inside of the mirror itself.

After being woken up by Pearl in "Mirror Gen" I'm sure she wasn't exactly thrilled to be called upon for more "slave historian" usage. Her entire embodiment of one being a "person" for the lack of better words, was erased. She was a thing, a processor and information logger. And even though they couldn't see her face, anyone who looked into her cage was all too visible to her.
I'm sure Steven was not something she was expecting. She felt an innocence in him; he may have been ignorant about who she was, but that didn't mean that he treated her like an object or a tool. He treated her like a friend, and those small moments of being just talked to like she was more than her prison meant soooo much to her, even if it was for a short time.

Sorry for my analogy. My friends and I get drunk and deeply analyze Steven Universe. And it's great.
