Colima Xolo by Yoik

Colima Xolo

Yoik

I made a very small Colima dog, inspired by common artifacts found in Mexico. Clay dog of many shapes and poses are found throughout Mesoamerican territories. The dog was believed to be the guide to the afterlife. All the dogs found shared the same basic shape. A short pudgey dog with short tails and flat backs, some had impressions of bones scratched into them. Some were water vessels, others just decoration.

Here is my first Comila dog, he's just about an inch long and intended as a fierce protector. He's going to be for my mom, she actually has a jackrussle/chihuahua who shares the traits of short stubby, chubby dog with a flat back. I've painted stripes on him several times, lol.

I'm not sure if I'm giving this to her as a totem to carry or if I'll turn him into a charm... Either way I'm VERY happy with this tiny guy, the smallest thing I've ever sculpted :D
