Confuzzled Scroll by Yelth

Confuzzled Scroll

Yelth

Done on commission for the ever awesome Kyell this is a medieval-esque thank you letter done as an official scroll to the staff of Confuzzled for their hospitality when he was their Guest of Honour at their Medieval themed con.

Gouache, pseudo gold leaf (the brown, blah scanners) and ink on pergamenata (veggie parchment) it was done in an style inspired by mid- late period medieval scrolls. The calligraphy is Gothic Quadrata Textura. I'm usually an earlier period illuminator and calligrapher, so this was a fun. :) The figures actually have significance as well, such as Kyell and Kit being in the top left corner, and Confuzzled's mascot in the bottom right.

All that is lacking is the Lords' signatures as this is a scan I have of the piece prior to shipping it out.

Wow, very nice. Did I ask before if you were in the SCA?

Thanks! And yes, and yes. :)

Hope you do scrolls for the SCA since this is very nice and better than many I have seen presented in court.

Why thank you. :) And yes, I do.

I'm completely fascinated by your illumination work- what a neat thing to do, esp. combining ancient styles with modern needs. Over the past year I've taken a plunge into pens, inks, and calligraphy-proper, though my own calligraphy and script is hardly above the 'goofing around' stage at this point. Could I ask what sort of nib you use? C:

      I'm using speedball nibs mostly.
