Igutsak reviewing some language manners with his kid before entering a village.

The portuguese text says "And if I talk like this, how do you reply?" replied with "This way".

Using english and portuguese for practical reasons. Igutsak's sign is "this way" in brazilian sign language, by the way. You can also do that by moving your hands as if you were a t-rex dropping 2 apples on a table.

In their continent, its pretty standard that everyone speaks some degree of sign language. Its also common for countryside folk to be polyglots - speaking the general language spoken by all species, its sign version, their native language, and a couple neighbooring people's languages. In big cities the general language is dominant and people dont have as much of a need to speak other languages to get by. Igutsak and his travel partner Jiji are merchant nomads so they catch a little of everything during their travels, passing this knowledge to their kid.

Another headworld bit: Both xoywren and meao culturally don't let their kids wear heavy patterned clothing. This is because they learn to make their own clothes at a young age and clothes need to realistically correspond to their sewing and/or designing habilities. Heavy patterned clothing or embroidery is seen as forcing a kid to grow up, unrealistic expectations, pretending and etc. Igutsak and Jiji however are nomads and don't care much about this. Having extra hands to carry fabric is more important than conservative views of places they're not even at. Theres also that they'd lose all their resources if they kept weaving new clothing sets every time the kid grows, so they just let them wear their stuff when its cold.
