I remember Dad saying he had a Cocker Spaniel.

He told me that he'd gone away to the Army, but when he returned there was no sign of his dog, and nobody explained his disappearance.

I think that's terrible.

I'm not certain if this was him, but he only ever spoke of one Cocker Spaniel.
