Frodo Art Evolution by WindWolf

Frodo Art Evolution

I am quite sure that by now you've noticed my obsession with Frodo. Yes, Frodo Baggins. This is not an OC, or my boyfriend in real life (I am quite single), this is my way of drawing Frodo Baggins from the Lord of the Rings, particularly the Frodo as portrayed by Elijah Wood. Why do I draw him like this you ask? Simply put it is because I cannot draw humans (believe me, I have been trying for years) and I just like it this way. Why Frodo? Well, after my first time watching the Fellowship of the Ring when I was 9 I became fixed on Frodo because, as stupid as it sounds, I saw a bit of myself in him. I felt so akin to Frodo that my obsession with him really took hold of me, that and I also find him to be the epitome of what I find attractive (yes, I'll also admit that I unhealthily fell in love with Frodo, although I know he is not real). Now you know! 12 years of obsession! Woohoo!

2004, age 10: Although I first got into LOTR a year earlier I didn't really sit down and draw Frodo until this point. I drew him as a red fox. Why? I have no idea. I've sort of always imagined him as a canine, but I don't know where I got fox from. His design was simple, but didn't actually look all that bad. His fox form stuck for a long time.

2007, age 13: Like I said; Frodo-fox stuck for a long time. At this point I was getting tired of the fox thing though and tried to update his markings a bit, although I wasn't really very satisfied. It was also at this time when a really big Frodo-drawing boom hit.

2007, age 13: The fox design was getting old, so after really thinking it over and disgussing it with my friend Icei in length I changed Frodo to a wolf, which became a permanent change. I decided on a wolf based on both Frodo's personality (I had also read the books a billion times at this point and had first read them when I was 9) and his physical appearance; quiet and a bit morose, but fiercely loyal and brave, and a lean yet strong build (as well as a piercing wolf-like gaze). Yes. Frodo is a wolf.

2008, age 14: This was probably the most Balto-esque form I had come up with, and actually looks like a bit of a step backwards design-wise. It was toward the end of this year that I got a deviantART account and I was desperately trying to come up with a good design for Frodo as well as my own fursona. It was also at this time that I came up with a WindWolf form for Frodo as well.

2008-present, ages 14-20: Ah, this is the design you all recognize, yes? Once I joined DA and saw all the pretty arts from all the amazing artists I knew I had to kick it up a notch. I went with bold, striking-looking markings yet kept it as simple and naturual-looking as I could. I am quite fond of this design, and will probably never change it again.
