Okay. I'm reading that this piece was released in 2001, more than a dozen years ago. So I'm going to judge it assuming you were a middleschooler back then.
The background in the scene appears to be the most improvised part about this piece. It's full of bent lines, trying to form something, but I can't tell what.
The whales are definitely identifiable as such. This piece seems like something you might have seen personally at Sea World. Now white spots are off in some places, making them feel smeared, or rather, misconstructed. You can see this in the lack of symmetry around the white patches near their eyes.
