When the airshow starts, it’s time to shut up your inner ecologist and pacifist…

This is based on a sketch I drew two weeks ago. Then I saw “The Wind Rises” and I thought it was quite relevant.
The background is a photo of the Patrouille Suisse, taken by me at the ILA Berlin Air Show 2016.

It’s supposed to be some kind of ironic reaction, because I can’t enjoy the show without thinking about the implications. I’m interested in new technologies and I want to take photos of some nice planes, but I can’t ignore the military aspect. Even if civil aviation seems to be more important these days, promoting military equipment is still the purpose of events like this. There was so much Bundeswehr this time, it was rather obvious that they’re desperately trying to make a good impression. Not even aerobatics can distract me from that.
