This started out as a keychain tail about 8 inches in length for my brother TonyLemur, but I extended it to a full sized one. It took several hours straight and a couple hours (maybe 1.5 actually?) here and there, but it's now a full arm-length tail! I did a slightly different method and I think it turned out well for a thinner tail but I wouldn't do this method for a thick tail like a dog or wolf.
