Ostriphant Gryphon Paperweight by VioletWhirlwind

Ostriphant Gryphon Paperweight

VioletWhirlwind

WARNING: OLD artwork!

Basically one of my critters that I uploaded earlier...in clay. (Link to the original drawing: https://www.weasyl.com/submission/1057851/critters-ostriphant-gryphon ) The assignment was to make something from a description given by students from another class. The one I chose was basically to combine an elephant with an ostrich. The drawing was the concept art for this, but I decided to do it in my critter style and use the drawing as a critter as well.

I WANTED to do this as a completely 3-d statue, but I realized that the oddness of it would have made that nearly impossible for my limited clay skills. thus, i decided to just make a paperweight out of the drawing. the inner details were done by poking the stencil I made and used to make the orriginal shape along the lines with the pen clay tool. Thus, the detail lines are actually a series of dots.

It wasn't what I had intended when beginning the project, but I actually think it came out quite nicely. The only problem is that some of the edges are a little sharp, though I smoothed as many as I could.

The paperweight is about one inch thick. I used a scanner, because at the time, I didn't have a digital camera. (now I have TWO, plus my phone and laptop. XD My how the times change.)
