This is the cover I painted for the new Imaginator Press edition of Clare Bell's wonderful saga of sapient prehistoric felines, Ratha's Challenge.

Challenge is book 4 out of the 5 book series, and imo the best one. The purple/orange color combo is one of my favorites, and I managed to cram in all the important characters - Ratha, Quiet Hunter (who's never been on a cover before as far as I know), Thistle and True-of-Voice. The clouds are painted from a picture I took at my parents' house of a looming thunderhead a few years ago, the elephant skull I photographed on a trip to the Smithsonian museum with my fiance, and while I used various pics of tiger as references for True (the one atop the skull) the serene self-satisfied expression is all Oscar, my oldest cat.
